So aside from the normal fees I need to fork out an exta $6-$7 so they can keep their own stuff up to date? Shouldn't that be included in the regular fee? Why even make it a different fee? I guess it sounds better on ads .. I bet someone at marketting got a promotion after _that_ idea. It's as if I went to the restaurant and on top of the regular bill, they charged me an extra $5 to help cover the cost of maintaining their pots and pans as well as covering part of the cost required to upgrade the restaurant with a brand new aquarium. And, just because they all charge the thing, it makes it ok? blah!

+1
from that quote u made, what the heck is ur regular plan fee supposed to cover then since they pretty much covered all bases on that statement .. with the exception of labour costs ..
as u said they might as well just integrate it into the regular plan fee instead of making it seperate..
on another note i've also heard that there's actually been a long standing court battle over this whole system access fee business and that it's been going on for years with no sign of abating ..

the (old) Fido ?
they're still pretty good in my opinion .. u get the coverage of the Rogers network, but with better plans and billing by the second ..
the old Clearnet was supposedly quite good too ..
if only there was more competition in the Canadian wireless market .. maybe they wouldn't all be such evil face jerk companies.

Eh. The competition is ok with Bell, Telus and Rogers, except they all seem to be ok with status quo right now. (Telus going after Fido was amusing for a while) |

How much more competition do you want? There will almost certainly never be another full wirelesss carrier in this country due to the costs required to build out a national cell network. Compare us to the USA... we have 3 major cell networks (well, really 2.5 when you consider Telus and Bell roam on each other's networks a fair bit depending where you are in the country). The US, a country with 10x the population has what? Only an additional 2 or 3 national carriers?
Any new "competition" that develops will be along the lines of the Virgin Mobile offering where they just piggy-back on one of the existing networks, which means network coverage and quality will not be any better than what the three major carriers can already offer.
As for rolling the system access fee into the cost of the plan, I could really care less. All that matters is the price at the bottom of the bill. Anyone that assumes the "price" of the rate plan you select is all you'll have to pay is pretty naive... Just as there are additional costs added to the price of a plane ticket, so too will there be additional charges and access fees etc. They are all clearly outlined in the contract you should have signed when you first got the plan. |
