I am suprised that everyone is so quick to say that Luke Chable is a bad DJ because he had one set that didnt go down very well. Yes he is known for a more progressive style but he is trying something new. I didnt really enjoy the first part of his set either but it certainly got going! He was jumping around and having a great time :D
I know most of you here probably know ten times more about music than me but I just think you are being very harsh. Or maybe you all expect too much from him?

I thought it was a great night. I couldn't particularly get into the first half of Luke's set either, because it wasn't my thing, however i thought he mixed what he was playing perfectly for what it was. The second half was much more my cup of tea (nb. much tougher & twisted, less high pitch squelchy stuff), a bit of Lo-Step in there, along with finishing with Dan Mangans newie called "Resourcerer" - he had the crowd well and truly primed for Sasha. I thought he looked like he was having a smahing time throughout the entire 2 hours, jumping around, bringing in the breakdowns etc, i don't see how he looked like he was not enjoying himself up there, or didn't wish to be there?
Sasha started as he always does, rather massively. I had to play upstairs not long after he began so i missed the first half, however when i walked back in the main room i was almost surprised to hear some of the most banging, tough progressive i have heard in some time (i was expecting Fundacion style electro actually), and he was pretty much relentless for the remainder of the set. I thought it was the best i have heard from him in the 3 times that i have been lucky enough to catch him. His last tune (before the encore) was absolutely beautiful.
Sean nailed again :) He's made an excellent job of closing off at both Sasha & Digweed this year. He was well getting into it also which was great to see.

lukes set may not have been everybodies taste but it still managed to whip the majority of the crowd into a frenzy so i guess you cant fault him for that! thats what hes there to do anyway entertain!
im kinda partial to some of the one love tunes anyway....
from pieces of my memory smasha was on the money... think it was a type of set the melbourne crowd had been waiting for for a while.
way better than his set last time @ the metro.
also thought the guy in the toilets playing the gazoo was awesome, he only played choons... awesome to watch!
laurie oakes reporting... nightline! |

i think its because we know the calibre of his productions we expect the same level of skill in a dj set. I dont think he is all that bad, i just dont think he should have been b4 sasha.
Keitel FTW! :toothless |

yeh agreed with scotty, keitel smashed QBH before digweed, i would have thought after a performance like that, he would have played before smasha.
BUT, chable did really get the crowd into it, he was definitely in the mood, and was really getting into it, its good to see when dj's actually akcknowledge the crowd existence |
