how long have you been at it in what styles?
I have 12+ years of both Chito-ryu and Shotokan Kartate, 6 years of BJJ and about 1.5 years of Japanese Jiu-Jitsu. :)
I've also trained in about 6 different styles besides those but none of them for longer than 6 months. These include the most time in Vale Tudo, followed by Judo, Tae Kwon Do, Akido, a bit of WuShu and what ever else is available to me when I have time.
(a lot of the competition I do is mixed styles so I want to know what I'm up against).
I'm assuming the Warriors guys focus on Kickboxing and BJJ? |
First Judo, then Yoseikan karate, Aikido and Taoist Tai Chi. Warriors does focus on KB and BJJ. I also went from one to another, not because I was bored with one, but wanted to learn other styles to appreciate the art form. I've hit 30 so I don't compete, but enjoy working out with some meaning.
And I'm no Randy Couture :gsmile: . |

cool, good stuff. :)
I train about half the year treating it as an art form/fitness and the other half for competition/street prep. I tore out my shoulder at Joslin's Canadian open grappling event a few years back and spent a year in rehab after the surgery so I don't compete in certian MMA events as I used to, mainly now its far more sporty ones for me (I'm not prepared to sacrifice another years worth of time not using my arm).
My plan once I get older is to switch up my styles to better accomodate age which is one of the reasons I really like Akido and Tai Chi... they are two forms I could see myself doing into my 90's :)
BJJ= not so much past 45 the way my body is holding up from it currently.
I love the core conditioning BJJ provides. Karate is nice for striking but I found nothing prepared me better for a punch to the gut than a month of heavy rolling on the mats. It's also nice that it's a martial art where you actually really have to use your head and think through things when they get difficult. |
