I know there's a lot of motorheads here on this forum, and probably a few more of you are interested because of stuff like the Gran Turismo games and Initial D...
So uh yeah, the vaunted new GT-R (Skyline and GT-R are now 2 very different models of car) will be officially unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show in just a few short hours.
Carlos Ghosn (Nissan's head) has confirmed indeed that this new GT-R model is coming to North America.
However, I've managed to scoop the leaked official press pics from another forum, so here goes!

Speculated engine is a new VQ-series 3.7L twin turbo V6 pushing 450bhp, mated with Nissan's famous ATTESSA AWD system with which to eat Porsche 911 Turbos.
Price is going to be, of course, 911 territory... |

Looks nothing like an RX-8.
Cale, you said it's gonna be in the Turbo price range? Weren't the original GT-R's affordable? Isn't their low price coupled with their incredible engine and supension what made them sell like mad? This is a step in a new direction for the GT-R. It was always a performance car, not a supercar. 450hp stock is a little too much imo. |

Carlos Ghosn has always stated that the new GT-R would be aimed squarely at the Porsche 911, and it seems they wanted to go big or go home by making the normal model destroy 911 Turbos which cost more than twice as much or thereabouts.
Speculated pricing is a bit over $100k CDN, I'm guessing no more than $115,000. For comparison, an '05 911 Turbo, with 415bhp, is $173,400, and a Turbo S is $192,400.
Original GT-Rs weren't ever that affordable either, they weren't sold in ridiculously huge numbers, but sold well enough to keep the trim level afloat and to incite Nissan to keep making them all the way from '89 until 2002. The thing is, they were just a high performance Skyline model, and Skylines were 4 door family sedans. They just happened to have a ing kickass trim level in there. This thing is purely designed to eat 911 Turbos alive, it's all sportscar. |
