Dude, it isn't the present that will stand out in her mind, it will be the experience.
Send flowers to her at school/work, (make sure it's in front of everyone so she can boast and feel special,) then when you meet up with her, take her out to a restaurant, have them sing happy birthday to her, and then present her with something sweet, something that will show you care about her, but make sure it is something personal.
This could be a poem you wrote, a picture of the two of you together, your class ring... whatever you know she will cherish and understand was given to her out of love.
She will be on cloud nine. I promise.
*and if she's not, she's a gold digger and you should dump her* |

The typical 17 year old girl loves attention like this.
I personally feel uncomfortable in such situations, but I'm not a regular 17 year old girl. |

I would hope that if I were with a guy, he would have paid enough attention to me to know what I would and wouldn't like.
What I said was a general outline of what a typical 17 year old girl (from my experience of knowing 17 year old girls) would enjoy. The main point, and most important might I add, is that the experience is what she will remember most, not the gift. |

fair enough, i dont mind giving a gifts like that, or "experiences" i prefer to gift things that can stay with the person, something they can use or keep that reminds them of it all,
like for my old girls bday, i got here this cool lil crystal thingie, and its still in her room. |

See the thing is, when you break up, a lot of people have the tendancy to get rid of the things that remind them of that person. But you can't get rid of a memory, not to mention that the memory and the experience will mean far much more to her than some material object. |

Say you're just turning 17.
Keep it like under $300 :wtf:
Just need suggestions because my girlfriends birthday is the 29th. |
Ooooo My birthday is the 29th too. (Im supposed to be getting CDJ 200s and DJM 707. /me crosses fingers)
I wouldnt get her anything more than like $50ish (at least not $300) I would go for a fun/memorable evening with a personal gift as Theresa said. The personal gift could be something like a picture or pendent or artistic, etc. |
