I'm not usually one to start threads, but last night's party at Boa deserves a special mention...
Last night was simply flawless... starting with the venue, which was just incredible... dark, mystic & definitely one of the best underground clubs this city has every seen (very reminiscent of the old Sona in Montreal)... to the sound system which was relocated from the old locale (an unmatched sound... to those of you who haven't had the pleasure, just know, nothing comes close).... to the incredible crowd & awesome vibe... to the DJ's, Kenny Glasgow & Low End Specialists, who are truly house music masters and gave us their all last night with a full range of 'shake-your-bootie' to 'pound the floor like a bunch of jackhammers' house beats all night long!
It's so obvious that Boa has been missed, because everyone turned up primed & ready to go with their "A" game last night. I haven't felt energy like that on a Toronto dancefloor in quite some time... since Boa closed it's doors in August for sure or maybe even before that... but whatever the case, last night's vibe was totally euphoric! So many happy, smiling faces just having a ripping good time... tearing it up as though they were being paid by the mile. I don't ever remember seeing so many GOOD dancers all under one roof like last night... definitely a world-class party that I would put up against any party worldwide, including Ibiza. It was *THAT* good!
A special shout out to all our friends, acquaintances, TA's and other the happy faces last night... but especially to Rony for bringing Boa back to Toronto. This city has missed you & we are sooooooooo happy to have you back!!
BOA IS BACK WITH A VENGEANCE!!! (THANK GOD!!!)
:tongue3 :happy2: :stongue: :toocool:  |

Looked like a really healthy turnout, not sure if it was more of a Halloween crowd or the Spadina Boa crowd, but people were rockin out.
Nice to see Jeff and Steve, shame we couldn't stay any longer I think the night(s) previous caught up with me haha.
ps. Thank you Erica... |

Yes, really turned out great. I was expecting a minimal crowd due to the lukewarm TA response and Lawler being at the Guv, but the crowd was MASSIVE! I'm not sure if it was just the Halloween timing, but it actually felt a lot like a rave, not with the candy kids but everybody on the dance floor was actually partying down! Mostly a very friendly crowd, some pushing and shoving but much better than most clubs. AND there was room to bust a move in many places (surprisingly enough, front-row center for a good part of the night).
For anyone who came earlier, there are some *MAJOR* issues that NEED to be worked out at the door, but I'm sure they just weren't expecting such a huge turnout. Also, they ran out of water halfway through the night. :wtf: I can forgive you guys this one time because it was opening night, but now you know what to expect.
Sound I would say is about on par with the Guvernment - it would have been naïve to think that they could completely recapture the original Boa sound and experience though. My ears have been ringing for most of the day, but there was good chest-rumbling bass and sound was pretty clear overall. It's a thousand times better than the original Turbo/Sound Emporium system. The lighting there is also fairly minimal, much like the original Boa (I like it that way personally).
LES put on quite a show, too. They had a drum kit set up in the middle of the dancefloor (toms, cowbells, etc.) and one of the guys would periodically go up there and play some grooves. The first time he did it, 50 people all circled around that area and went completely ing NUTS. For most of the night they spun a lot of tribal and percussive stuff, but every now and then they'd bust out a big haus tune to keep it interesting.
Not a whole lot of 'addicts representing that night, unfortunately. I only ran into Floorwhore, Shiftn6ears (however you spell that), disko-kandi and Richard Raiban (whom I think was in a Ron Jeremy costume :p). It was great to see you guys out, at least some people were able to stop worshipping Lawler for long enough to check out this massive event!
This is not the old Boa, but I do have high hopes for the future. Given the turnout, it looks like there's huge potential for success *IF* you guys work a little bit on the crowd management outside.
Cheers, looking forward to many more wicked party nights @ "Le Nouveau Boa!" |

| I showed up around 3am and could not believe my eyes! Down stairs was cool, but upstairs blew my mind. The sound stage isn't as tuned as the old Boa, but the clarity still beats Guv IMHO. LES absolutley killed it! I love the way there are more lounging areas setup in a more presentable manner to allow those who want to dance to dance, and those who want to chill and listen to the beats do their own thing! Can't wait till Saeed touches down in Decemeber!! Congrats Rony on the new place! |

yeah I agree totally with the observation above... the place looks soo underground - love it!
though I think downstairs could use some spicing up - I know there's a lot of stuff that's still in progress of being done with the place so we shall see!
I can tell though, this place is gonna host some massive parties
thanks as always Jeff for looking after g/l arrangements, even though 2/3 of my crew didn't show up - hahaha, halloween saturday is a verrrry unpredictable night!
the low end specialists played a good set, though I got caught up downstairs a good part of the time - was loving the beats Simon J was playin down there later on in the night
word, Steve - i bet you don't regret missing guv thatttttt much considering the reviews above eh |

| wow....best party of the year for me, and a definate top 5 for life. Music was flawless, Kenny G destroyed the upstairs as an opener, then LES came in and took out any of us that were left standing. The new venue really exceeded my expections...the downstairs has a real warehouse rave feel and the upstairs a real underground feel. The sound is very good, i imagine they still have to tune it with a full crowd in the place. But the big thing for me that night was the people...it came very clear after the booze crowd filtered out, that a huge factor of the old boa's appeal was the crowd...from about 4:30 on, the floor was filled with all boa regulars, all of them dancing there asses off and the building really did feel like 'Boa'. |
