I am tipsy right now but you people are the awesomest. I will for once count and mention pretty much all the TAs that were there. mine to call friends... not that those who've supported me before aren't important. Its just today- I needed love more.

Dj Wyndham # I wus so nervous for you!
Dj Beynon #2- thought zI'd c you in this spot.
DJ Robben# 4- HAH! Made it # 1 in my heart. This guy came thru in 1 hour whe one other DJ/contestant cancelled. Awesome personality, cute as a button plus his freaking parents were there to support him :) and btw he lost only cos he got soooo excited with the whole shindig for it was a close race tonight. His tracklisting was impressive. but meh there'll be other events........rest assured.
and BEBA-thanks George twas nice to c your smiling face- I am done ( tooo tipsy fer now--
now I want pics ......

Yes great night. I was surpised that we got the early turnout for the DJS. You guys really support the scene and without supporters djs would still be in their bedrooms alone.
I for one am happy to support this and would like to continue the competition for eveyone out there. The next competition will have some more rules but I will be giving away a radio show on the air for 3 months. Wich means you'll be on both internet and FM for that period.
The Djs all played a really good set. Its nice to see everyone feed off eachother and work a more viable set for the crowd.
Although a great club, i'm not too sure if Trance is a good choice of records. Personally i would prefer more of a progressive housey feel. The room is small and people like to mingle and dance.
If I could suggest something for the DJS.... although your going to pull the gems that you have from your bags, before you walk behind the DJ booth, look around and feel what others feel, what tracks and sounds make them moove. Once your up, you can feel what worked and didn't. The hardest spot to fill is the first one. You set the mood and tone. Once you warm the room up, its much easier for the next dj to feed off what you just did. Ask the DJ after you when your done what hes playing !!

That was a great night everyone.
Congrats to Wyndham for tearing it all up with your dirty beats! You had a solid set brotha. And great job to Beynon as well -- you followed my set perfectly with your track selection. Robben it was nice to hear those great trance tracks. And yeah in retrospect maybe trance wasn't the way to go afterwards -- but you held your own man.
Shouts to alefort (Andre) -- i'll find that track for you tonight.
Thanks to Voodoochild for setting this up and thanks to the judges and everyone involved!

I totally hear what you are saying about feeling out the crowd, but having played this competition, you are not playing for the crowd, because the crowd is either everyone you brought with you or people the other DJs have brought with them, and they aren't looking for a warm up. This isn't like headlining at guvernment or something.

Part of being a dj, amateur or otherwise, is reading a room. If you're going to be in this competition, go check out Beba. Find out what they play. Take a look at the room, do your research.
Part of the skill of dj'ing is being versatile, and being able to keep a crowd happy. If you can't handle that, don't enter the competition. You can't just get up and start caining the biggest baddest tracks of whatever genre you want. Know your crowd, and play to it. |
