Actually no i don't judge by that. Have a look at my previous posts.
There was a great house set done a few weeks ago, cool mixes, great vibe and it was awsome.
If the dance floor is filled and then cleared, do you keep playing or do you change it up ? |

Ya'll need to chill the out!! I believe this night was just a way to get some local Dj's out on a Wed to play a venue that is not the bedroom, where your audience isn't your poo bear and your My little pony. The potential to win a prize is an added bonus!! Yayee free stuff!!!!!!! Kudo's to Neata for helping to organize this. It is a nice way to get together with friends for a drink while listening to fantastic music!!

Progressive is boring is your opinion. Many of the house heads there might say the same about trance.
If you have a few DJs that would "kill the place" tell them to take my place as I wont be able to make next week. And all Maxx said was that the type of music that would suit the venue is progressive, house, which is probably true. A TOTA dj who plays all trance has won in the past so if your DJs are able to "kill the place" even if they play trance or polka Im sure they will win. And competiton there isnt lame as past DJs have also "killed the place" from what I hear. |

This is DJ Kabo. I played and won the night a couple of weeks ago. I'm a little floored by this backlash. The night I played, there were four contestants. One played progressive. One played house with a soul tip. One played electro. I played a combination of progressive with a trance edge, electro and hard house, AKA what I always play. I "tied" with the house guy who was at the other side of the 4/4 spectrum. The other progressive guy came in last (I thought he was actually quite good, but if it's a competition someone always ends up last).
How'd I win? Well considering that I'm unknown, not even part of the "scene" much, and didn't know any of the judges, I'm hoping it was my track selection, sequencing, mixing and the little things, like actually mixing into the last track of the DJ before me instead of just fading it out.
Personally, I'd lose the competition aspect, but it ain't my night. Usually, there is a comradery between DJs on a night, which was lost somewhat when you realised you were there to "win". I would have played just for the fun of it, and trust me, after 10 years of spinning, I had no illusion of this night "making me".

When I eventually have my turn at this 'competition' I will be there to have fun, meet some new friends, and play some tunes. I expect nothing less, and nothing more. |
