i never noticed dodgy mixing, maybe because of the quality of tunes, but i will ANALyse it.. and then pick it apart, like many others seem to have done here

Yeah i think some people pick mixing apart at the seems so much that it must take a lot of the enjoyment out of actually listening to music. If having a better knowledge of beatmatching and keymatching technique would make me over analyse mixing like that in oakeys set then im happy to be ignorant.

the art of education is knowing the appropriate times to use it!!!!

i may be a black belt, but i choose not to beat the out of all the s here with my massive gunz..

*cough* bollocks.

who says anyone is analysing anything? you hear it or you dont. end of story. ill put up with god-awful mixing a long as the tunes are good (thats what the fast-forward key is for).

its got nothing to do with \"knowledge\". again, you hear it or you dont. whether youre listening for it or not.

the end.

So wouldnt this comment be a contradiction then? I associate practicing with gaining a better knowledge of something or developing a skill. And i agree that "you either hear it or you dont" but you seem to be saying that by learning to mix yourself you tend to "hear it" more. This is where my point was raised in saying if by knowing what to listen for made me pick apart average mixing (i can hear obvious trainwrecks easily enough) then i would probably enjoy it less.. but its really all just hypothetical really.
Philby
raistlin i think you are just about the only person on TA full stop who doesn't rate this set let alone the aussies, its classic :D :D :D

maybe i'll try listening through headphones and look for it, but then maybe that means i will notice it more often and i won't enjoy this set as much...or maybe i'll just leave it and keep getting pumped up for guestlist action whenever i hear it :D

yeah i got my decks, and trying to beatmatch "hiratzka & joe c - show u the way (chris micali remix) and "yunus guvenun - fever" is giving me the s :whip: haha
i've heard plenty of trainwrecks before, especially that time i had a go at jizza's place, i didn't even bother trying to beatmatch lol, but yeah hearing them a lot more now ;)

Back on topic. I think the first set i listened to and really got lost in was Carl Cox - Live at Zouk Club Singapore (probably between 1999 & 2002 sometime). I should have another listen of it, havent listened to it in like 3 years!

haha. i just dont think its \"knowledge\" is all. makes it sound a bit wanky or an elite skill which it aint. its not so much knowing what to listen for as it just standing out at you, even if youre not paying attention.

yeah, i know! :( i feel left out once again. i thought there were some ok tunes on there (i even own a couple of them) but everyone was raving (haha) about it so my expectations were a lil high.

good luck with the mixing phil :) and for the record, i dont not like this set coz of the mixing (which i didnt notice coz i skipped thru) just the tunes dont do a lot for me. im a post-2000 child after all ;)

work i say :(

hahaha. actually, youre pretty right there! im the first to admit im a pleb (though to be fair i could imagine you shuffling to the sound of a pedestrians crossing) so maybe im the anti tachyon? :D
tachyon
haha, the world could use an anti tachyon i think, much like bringing balance to the force (or annulled the disturbance in the force, take your pick :p)

i don't dance much these days to be honest, prolly because i dance alone most of those times :(
