View this Thread in Original format
Mozarts ghost
Hi....

I've been working on this remix for some time and would like to hear your comments. I know it is a bit slow, but as an old fanatic Depeche Mode Fan I didn't have the heart to distort Gahans voice more.

THIS IS THE NEW (new) LINK. 20051115 I did some additional work to please the DJ:s (At least I hope I did..:D)

Hope you will enjoy..

Your ghost of Mozart.

really nice remix. good listening
haven't heard the original song, but this remix has a sorta depeche mode feeling over it. great work :D

btw, i don't think it's slow

Very nice work in general. I'd like to be able to drop this in my sets, so here are some thoughts from a DJ wanting to play your tune:

Intro - we only have sixteen seconds before you introduce the high synth, but then another 45 seconds pass before something new hits. Perhaps you should split give us 30 second with just the bassline? Or even just give us the percussion for another 64 beats before you add that bassline? I'm likely going to have to loop those first 16 second on my CDJ in order to transition into your track as it's presently constructed.

The track could use more percussive variation. That doesn't mean a breakdown; in fact, I enjoyed the steady pace of the beat throughout the track. But perhaps a short breakbeat segment or some secondary percussion that adds a different twist?

Need a longer outro. Be friendly to the DJ.

I think the tempo and mood of the track are great!

great 'retro' sounding bass!

and some absoloutely lovely cymbal work!

this sounds deep.

i wish id checked your work earlier.

up to 1;34 perfect! 1;34- a synth that im not to fond on. it ruins it a bit. maybe turn it up an octave so its a bit higher?

vocal is great! i love it - 2;50- that synth sounds better when it opens up a bit.

octave shifts... im not sure. i like them and i dont at the same time. definately original.

id turn the main synth down in the mix a bit so the lush vibe behind it stands out more.

great work!!!!!!!

one of my favourites for the last few weeks 9/10

rich:)

As usual I'm delighted that some of you actually enjoy my creations.

To richg101:
Think you already got what you wanted...;)

To DJ Dingel:
If you seriously want a better DJ friendly build I will be glad to comply to your wishes. Send me a detailed mess to my mail and I will do my best to make it fit your demands...:D

To Nils:
I suggest you take a good listen to one of the BIG groups in time...:p This mix is a blend of two of Depeche modes tracks from two different albums. The synth string is taken from World in my eyes from the album Violator and the vocal part from In your room from the album Songs of faith and devotion.

Thanks guys for your comments....
Your ghost of Mozart.

cheers for the track.

its lush!

it sounds very eighties in the way you do big key shifts. and the track and vocals compliment each other so well! shame more people havnt commented on this one:(

it sounds nice without the synth @ 1;30.

great work!

commenting as I listen...
kinda dry percussion. In the beginning at least. Later on this gets better.
The kick is very muffled, but that might be your intention. I think it fits well with the tune.
Cool gated pad you got starting @0:16. Works well with the rest of the tune. Good snare sound!
Now it's getting more interesting with some good layering. Nice use of the sample.
2:03 ... forget what I said about the percussion, it works very well now...
:eyes: the atmosphere is great.
The lead synth gets a little repetitive. Maybe I'd change the main theme towards the end a little, or maybe I'd add another layer. Anything that lets the tension rise a little more.

I must say you got your own very interesting style. This track really stands out positively for me. And the atmosphere is really great, I love the melancholic dark mood (since I'm a listener of Industrial/Gothic stuff too). my gf says she loves this track too :)

Thank you Cybernetica for taking the time. At the same time you wrote your comments I was working on the track to get it more DJ friendly and I also did som changes to the end of the track. Might be worth a listen.

Link at the top is changed to the new track.

So people c'mon and comment and give me more insightful critizism....

I love the new DJ-friendly mix. Excellent work. I look forward to playing this in a set soon!

Hey MG,

This is excellent.

I agree that the percs sound dry in the beginning.. a touch of reverb and you're set!

That cymbal-run every bar is slick - nice job!

I'm not very familiar with the original, but you've done great work with the melodies and their harmonies - sounds awesome!

Sorry I don't have more suggestions for you .. this is very enjoyable!

I look forward to more stuff from ya!

first of all, this is the favorite Depeche Mode track of mine:

interesting beginning, nice lush kinda bass, percussions are simple, and has this metallic sound to them, kinda cool..

i recognise the melody, i like it alot, but i must say, that the work u did with Gahan`s voice doesnt work at all for me.. sounds like a kid, or a girl is singing through a distrortion unit

nice additional melodies and stuff, but seriously dude, the voice is really ruining it all.. dont know if u hadd the full acapella or what..

excellent work, except the vocals
Mozarts ghost
Thanks for taking your time to comment...

To DJ Dingel
Hope it will fill up the floor...;)

To sooper:
As I told Nils earlier... You should take a listen to the original track. It's one of the best from Depeche Mode.

To Subtle:
I know Gahan's voice sound all wrong, but I felt I had no choice. Tryed to resample it without altering the pitch, but that sounded even worse. Talk about distorting... So my only choice was to pitch it. If you have an acapella version or know where to get one I would be overjoyed if you told me. I intended it to have the same pitch as the original but about 20 - 25 bpm faster, and with an acapella version that is possible to do... And maybe, but just maybe all of the lyrics can be used...:D

Once more I thank all for some good critisism.
