am i the only one that noticed the post to put the handicap sign on is on the ground to the left of the spot in the first picture? thats a little odd.
anyway i wouldnt say that shes at total ignorance for parking there because there is no sign and the handicap logo on the ground is hardly visible... but being that the lines are painted blue and it is right next to another handicap spot, it is sort of tough to say... but either way the popo, thats why you either go to the best buy in paramus or secaucus :) |

not trying to "appeal" to anything- just stating my opinion in the thread title and posted my story. and got some proofreading done bc proofreading my own work is always tough for me to do. and how did i make it seem like i was more rushed than anyone else? i didn't.
and your extreme examples prove what? that i might commit vehicular manslaughter in the future? i dont think ur examples apply tbh because you're applying people to a particular situation where there was none involved- you def went down the slippery slope argument, which is as invalid as the "if i smoke pot one day, i'll do e and after i do, i'll do coke and then crack then heroine and now i'm a junkie all bc of pot" sort of argument. and bc i made a mistake, that makes me ignorant? please. and don't try to tell me that if the first spot you see happens to be the first one, you're gonna park somewhere else.
and i already admitted my mistake in the very first post, captain obvious ;) |

Well it is pretty much common knowledge that the first spot is a handicapped one. |

as i mentioned, there are several stores i go to around me that, for some reason, have regular spots before or equal to the handicapped spots-- it's stupid but it exists..go figure, it's jersey.. we're all retarded here :toothless |

So now you're making a straw man argument, good for you.
If you want a better example here:
Person is taking test and arrives late not hearing all the instructions. Professor says anyone arriving late will not get recap at the start of the course. You try to appeal to him with a story about how your dog escaped and you couldn't get there in time. He doesn't care, and you fail a portion of the test because of it.
Better?
How about :
Its widely known that you can't smoke within 50ft of government buildings (those of us that work around them) and there are usually signs that indicate such around the area. A wind storm comes and blows some of the signs away, but a person that has been working there for years decides to light up anyway. Without getting any notice of a change in the policy, and is reprimanded by his superior who is an asthmatic. He claims "I didn't see the sign" but he knows full well that there were others standing off another 25ft back from where he was still following the rules.
Perhaps the cop has a disabled mother or father and doesn't like it when people who aren't handicapped take up those spaces, accident or not.
Also
No, I wouldn't park in the first available space because I always park near the rear, and don't care about how far I have to walk. I hate when I ride with someone who spends ten ing minutes looking for the closest parking space, that infuriates me to no end. I'll tell them to drop me off near the door while they tool around parking. I don't understand the obsession with close parking. |

Dear Joe,
I hope this note finds you well. As my mother may have described to you during the real estate closing, I ran into a bit of bad luck today and received 3 tickets from the same officer in the span of 10-15 minutes at the Best Buy off Route 46 West in West Paterson.
The name of the Officer is Eric Luker, officer #138. His commanding officer is Lt. Frasco. Please let me describe what occurred today in detail:
At approximately 10:45am, I walked into Best Buy, thinking I had parked in a perfectly legal parking spot. At exactly 10:53am, less than 10 minutes later, I returned to my car to see Officer Luker blocking my car with his police car. My first thought was to kindly ask him to move his car back a bit so that I could leave because I was in a rush. I had no idea that I had done anything wrong. I even thought that he was perhaps waiting for someone or writing someone else a ticket. I walked over to his passenger side and stopped when I saw a light blue marking on the ground and realized that he was writing me the ticket. I greeted him with a smile but he didn’t care to speak with me. I then knocked on his window; he rolled it down and I proceeded to tell him it was an honest accident and it was only the moment I stood between the back of my own car and on the side of his car that I actually saw some faded blue markings on the ground that was supposed to delineate the parking spot as handicapped. (Please see attached photos taken by me today. As you can clearly see, the marking isn’t half as predominant as the other handicapped spaces next it and there is absolutely no sign for drivers to clearly see it is a handicapped space. To make things worse, it was cloudy and drizzling.) His sole response: “Too late.” So I politely and sincerely asked him, since he said it was ‘too late’, if he would be writing the same ticket if I had been walking to my car 5 minutes earlier. He mumbled something that I could not understand fully about arguing with a cop. I replied, “Officer, I’m not trying to argue with you, does it seem like I’m being aggressive? Of course not.” I was honestly just trying to have a rational conversation about the situation. At that point, he attitude turned even more vitriolic and he quickly retorted "Oh, you haven't even seen me get agressive yet!" and then told me to shut up and get in my car. I stood there shocked and asked “Excuse me?” And he told me again, this time louder. The second I tried to ask why, he cut me off once again, yelling at me. (There were people walking in and out of the store stopping to see what the commotion was- I was completely embarrassed by the way Officer Luker was treating me.)
Officer Luker followed me to my car, ordered me to get in and open the window and then demanded my license and registration. He proceeded to ask me a series of questions, some of which seemed completely irrelevant since he had the information right in front of his eyes and even said in an obviously derogatory manner, such as “Who owns this car? Who is this car registered to? Are you on your parents’ insurance policy?” I answered the questions straightforward, no questions. Ten minutes passed before he returned to my car with yet another ticket in his hand. This one for ‘obstructing view’, which was referring to the radar detector that was suctioned cup to the very lowest part in the center of my windshield. I said “Thanks” and remained in my car for a few minutes, trying to regain my composure and attempt to call my mother to vent my frustration. I watched Officer Luker drive off and I finally drove off in the opposite direction (which happen to be the way I came in) to go back onto Route 46 West. However, no less than 40 seconds after I began driving through the parking lot to get back on the highway, I noticed he cut off the person driving behind me to get behind my vehicle. Naturally, I was fixated on his car waiting for him to stop following me, not to mention still in shock at what just happened to me less than 5 minutes ago. (I have never shed a tear in front of a cop before but I was bawling by this point.) As I make a slight right, following 2-3 cars out to the route 46 East exit, Officer Luker turns on his siren and lights and proceeds to pull me over. He walks up to my driver side door. I couldn’t even force any words out of my mouth so I just looked up at him, mouth agape. He said: “I don’t have any more tickets in my car to write up, so I’m going to mail you a summons.” Completely confused, I asked “For what?” and he replied “For not putting your turn signal on when making a right turn.” He began to walk away before stepping back to remind me that there was a court appearance required for the parking spot ticket. I retorted: “I’ll see you in court with my lawyer.” As if he didn’t put me through enough grief, he decided to give me another completely unnecessary ticket especially seeing as how two other cars also failed to turn on their blinkers. Also, if it wasn’t obvious that he was ticketing me the first two times just to provoke me and/or fulfill his monthly quota, it was most definitely apparent now. Moreover, it was quite evident that he was following me; after he uncouthly informed me that another ticket would arrive in the mail, he returned to his vehicle, made a u-turn in the middle of the road and drove it in the opposite direction.
The court date is scheduled for Tuesday, November 29th at 4pm.
Regardless of these tickets he issued to me, I believe his behavior alone should be reported. Why should people be subjected to attitudes like Officer Luker’s, especially if they are being polite and orderly with officers? Shoppers from Best Buy were staring at me as if I had stolen from the store- his arrogance and aggressiveness were completely unwarranted. Additionally, for the record, all three of these particular charges are first time offenses for me.
Thank you for taking the time to read this letter, Joe. Please feel free to call me at any time at the number listed above regarding this matter and anticipate your response.
Best Regards,
Daniela

so... what's the point of your examples if i already admitted to an honest mistake and i think that the cop's behavior alone should be reported, if not the other things? (not being sarcastic btw)
and i'm not obsessed with getting the first spot-- it just happen to be the first one i saw and it happen to be free so i went for it- everyone's entitled to make mistakes, aren't they? (plus, once again, i've never ever parked in a handicapped space before, regardless if there are 10 empty ones and not 1 regular space open). anyway, i'll gladly pay the $100 fine for doing that but just the way the cop acted towards, as if i was some inferior peon compared to his mighty stature, i'll be there in court trying to fight the he pulled on me...(have to go to court anyway, so might as well). ppl might see it as shooting myself in the foot bc i really wont prove anything in the long run, but like i said before, i dont think cops like this should get away with their attitudes. sure, it's one cop and it makes no difference in the scheme of things but hey, at least i can say i tried. |
