That's not necessarily true. You have to look at the bigger picture. Development costs have been on the rise for the past couple of generations in the industry; with the next generation of consoles being the most expensive it's ever been, with PS3 easily being the most expensive. If a company like Konami puts in upwards of $20 million into the development of Metal Gear Solid 4, for example, then they'll be extremely dissappointed if their profits are marginal at best, because of piracy. Then take into account that Microsoft AND Sony both lost money on every console sold. They need garunteed sales of video games to pull their revenue back into the plus.
I'm not exactly defending Sony's move, but but these companies aren't as rich as you'd think; and with the technology Sony is putting into the PS3, they're surely going to be losing A LOT of money on the console, even though it'll be the most expensive of all 3 consoles. |

K, don't get me wrong, they're rich, but most of their money comes in through video game sales and they don't start posting more impressive revenue statistics until the maturity or decline stages of a console's life. Sony's numbers will be A LOT more impressive than MS's though, mainly because of Playstation 2's much bigger userbase, which translates to more units sold.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure there would be quite a big backlash. |

| this is the biggest S**** ever, I honestly don't think sony would put an end to video game rentals as well as pre-owned purchases that keep strong ties to it and other big outlets such as EB. I could see this being 100% fake. |

I doubt that this is true, because it would undoubtedly kill any hope for success with that system. It would be an ironic followup to the Rootkit DRM issue that came up at the beginning of the month, though!
However, I do not believe that it's a scam by Microsoft either. Microsoft may be marketing a competing product, but if they lied outright then it would damage their corporate relations with Sony, which is definitely not in their interests right now considering all of their joint projects. |

Who gives a , this just gives modders more of a challenge and will likely make modding even more popular than it was with the PS2.
I give it a year max before a decent chip is out. |
