Sleeping, but thinking i'm at work :(

So I started a new job last week, delivering stuff to car dealerships and places around my city. Its a job for now, and its money, so whatever. Anyway, I drive between 400KM - 600KM a day, so pretty much driving somewhere all the time for 9 hours. I've been having a problem getting work off my mind though.

Its not a hard job really, some lifting sometimes but not bad. Obviously when your driving, you have to get the right stuff to the right places with the right invoices, so you have to pay attention to stuff. I've been having a problem getting work off my mind though.

I go to bed, and i've been waking up like 5 times a night half asleep. I know i'm at home, I can see it when I open my eyes, but I think I'm at work and have an order that has to go out. So while doing this while sitting up in my bed, I look on my bed for an invoice lol, and get stressed when I cant find it. Then I finally realize, wtf am I doing, i'm at home for sure, snap out of it, and lay back down. I dont know if I'm like still dreaming when I open my eyes but then snap out of it or what. I wake up like this like 5 times a night and because of that i've had massive broken sleep and i'm always tired now!

I'm not one to go to bed early, but I went to bed at 9:30pm and still felt tired at work! FACK! At work for 9 hours, then chill at home for awhile, then to bed to DREAM about WORKING, and waking up thinking i'm WORKING! FRIG!

Has anyone had something like this happen to them before? How did you get over it so you can get your mind off work and actually SLEEP!?

Its stress. Try some Melatonin (available in the vitamin aisle in the drug store) to help with your sleep.

happens all the time. sometimes i think my sheets is apiece of sheet metal when i first wake up and the more i dont want to get up the larger the gauge

also sometimes i have dreams that i work full shifts and for some reason the dream always ends with the lunch buzzer meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

then i wake up and im like " ANOTHER SHIFT I JUST WORKED ONE IN MY SLEEP!"

You gotta relax man.

Convince yourself that when you're at home, you don't have to work.
If it makes you feel better, keep a personal organizer, with details of your work to keep your mind more at ease, because it seems that you're worried too much about missing something out.

I worked in 28 day shifts or more, with about 13h days this summer. I'd dreamed about work then woke up and worked 13h a day. I dreampt about it less when I got used to the work and the demands of it.

Hmmm....try going for a run or exercising after work - it'll tire your body out more and make it go into a deeper sleep where you won't have such stressful/hectic dreams.

Kris, who should take her own advice more

Depends on how stressed out a person is, that may not even work.

And don't go for a run just before you go to bed. Adrenaline won't let you go to sleep.

-ET, who's been in this kind of situation too often :)

lol Dan ... hard life when you actually have to work for your money eh ? :)

once you get into the job more you will relax ... like they stated above .. its just the stress of starting a new job :) you dont want to sleep in or miss something .. so your really stressed about getting everything right :)

bill 'em for the extra hours worked :p
and why is it that I can't remember that brilliant solution I came up with in my dreams?

on a more serious note...I've had this happen a few times at work, and a few times at school...everytime it was related to something that I had been worrying about days before (ie. failing the math test)...based on that I'm guessing that you're concerned about doing something wrong or forgetting to do something at work...should go away once you adjust to the new job...

I'm gonna recomend what I recomend for everything:

Smoke a fattie! You'll forget all about work ;)

I find that stuff like this happens when you are new to a job and are really focused on it and afraid of screwing up.
From my experience though, the stress wears off once you settle into the job and familiarize yourself better with the tasks. You will become more comfortable and require less exertion.. and it'll become easier to think about other things and relax again :)
