| yes, the SR20 is what he's aiming for if he gets the 240sx. It's universally praised and i believe it's a simple drop-in and run (ECU programming? i dunno) |

i don't wanna hijack the thread or anything. but i'm thinking about buying my first car but i don't really wanna spend too much money. if i spend like 1500 is there any chance that i could actually get something good? I know my about cars for the most part. But i don't know if i should actually start shopping around for something that cheap and having every one of them ending up complete . |
Buy an old subaru. its going to be ugly but its also going to outlast your grandchildren :D |

| u could get 2 VWs for that budget. I had an 88 VW jetta and the only thing i had to do in its 3 year ownage was basic maintenance and replacing the CV boot. |

Just wait for that Civic Si to hit the streets in December. RSX Type-S engine in it, you're going to see the rebirth of the Civic nation whether you like it or not. |

Civics... not my taste. Like Mustangs, they're all over the damn place. 240s are getting there(in terms of everyone wanting/getting one)... but at least they're rwd and with an sr20det swap, they pretty much smoke Civics with bolt-ons(and look better doing it, too). I would never want to drive something I see every damn day on the roads(mustangs, camaros, civics, etc.)... no matter how fast it was. I like to stand out(and be fast in process).
IMO, the Tornado is b.s. I frequent plenty of car enthusiast forums and they all say the same thing... the Tornado is useless.
As for oil filter, I've always relied on OEM filters(with full synthetic oil changes).
Air filter... I've never used AEM or K&N... I have an ApexI filter in my mr2 turbo. Here's pics of my 'project car':

Next summer... a 3rd gen 3sgte will replace the usdm 3sgte. 245 crank horses to start with... 350-400 rear wheel horses is the goal. Hemi, what?!?!? :p |

Aww come on guys, why do you think there's so many civics and mustangs? Cheap speed. With all the parts available you can customize them so no 2 look alike. My example

plus a little homemade turbo action

visit homemadeturbo.com for a little insight into cheap speed  |

next maintenance:
my friend wants to change the oil and spark plug + wires.
the last time we changed his oil, i remember him putting Mobil1 Synthetic along with a Fram oil filter. ugh, last night i came to the conclusion that fram is an absolutely horrible choice. It seems all they do is glue cardboard to the inner sides of the casing. A good number of people are standing behind the K&N oil filters, despite the fact i've heard rumors of it ing up the engine as well as voiding a cars warranty by flowing too much oil. so what is a good oil filter? OEM? as for oil, many message boards rely on Amsoil, "the racing oil."
and ignition,
my friend tried out bosch +4 platinum plugs and said they really hindered his fuel economy. i came to the same conclusion when i used them on my jeep. NGK iridium plugs seem to be the way to go as well as wires. and i've been told to just keep the rotor/cap/distributor stock.
in about a month, my friend wants to race his car for the first time at the track (san diego racelegal.com)
