Lets chat about cars and car performance upgrades. Ask questions, give insights, show off your engine bays, whatever.
my friend in California has a 93 honda civic ex. he's had it for about 4 years and done some basic upgrades to it. Hes got intake/exhaust for power and front upper strut bar, lowering springs, rear swaybar for suspension and handling. He's not sure wether he wants to keep adding to it or wether to sell it and start new work on a 240sx. I'm telling him to get the 240sx of course. rwd and the opporunity for him to do an engine transplant.
couple months ago i was offered an 84 Celica GTS Fastback. He said if i bought it, he would give me his spare supra engine for free, which would fit snuggly into the bay. i turned it down and got a reliable economic echo.
so, questions!
is there any hard evidence of positive performance from both Tornados or the magnets you put on your fuel line?
What exactly is the best oil filter out there?
do BCM air filters outperform K&N or AEM filters?
what are situations that negative camber are good for?
and. i hear a lot of mumbo jumbo about K&N Gold Oil Filters completely ing up ur engine. true? |

you made the right choice by getting a new car instead of a hot rod junker. for the most part perfomance mods only give you modest gains and are more about the appeal of customizing your car. if you want a fast sports car then buy one, don't try to "upgrade" a snail. to answer your question oil filter wouldn't make ur car faster. airfilter and a performance exhaust would because your increasing the flow of air into your engine. obviously the whole engine needs to be tuned to take advantage of it. there is no such thing as a quick performance accessory you can strap on to your car. |

dont get a 240sx, they're e, not even turbocharged. import a jap 180sx type X. Better engine, and a semi decent bodykit as standard, it's a fantastic car.

Don't worry about all those small bolt-ons.. they're really not that essential. A big gain in performance is going to cost you a good bit of money..
Right now my dad and I are building a '65 Mustang Fastback. Bought a 5.4L Navigator block that's gonna have 20 pounds of boost from a blower.
Superchargers and turbos are really the cheapest way to get a large gain of horses. Of course, if you want to run a lot of boost, your engine better have the internals to take the added stress. Forged internals are the way to go, and that's just more money.
So yeah, it all boils down to how much change you have.
Good luck with the project.. and once again, don't buy cheap ass filters and such, but they're really not that big of a deal. |

If you do get a 240SX put in the SR20 engine into it. that is all.
Negative camber is useful in controlling drifts, as the slide becomes a *bit* more predictable.
Most aftermarket air filters will perform at similar performance to each other, its only the brand you are paying for. There was a test on a japanese performance forum with 4 filters (Blitz SS, HKS SPF, Apexi Super induction and K&N57i) they all gave similar power gains ( i think the Apexi had a 3bhp lead on all of them) but what differed between them was the actual filtration qualities. The Blitz and HKS filters were absolutely terrible for filtering dirt and stuff out of the air, yet cost a good 50-100 GBP more than the other brands.

I have gone a different way with my mods.....
I've got a 2" raise kit, 33"x11.5" mud tires, anti sway bar disconnects, a rear diff locker, skid plates, high clearance bumpers, and various other minor upgrades. Next on the list..... winch and snorkle! |

| i don't wanna hijack the thread or anything. but i'm thinking about buying my first car but i don't really wanna spend too much money. if i spend like 1500 is there any chance that i could actually get something good? I know my about cars for the most part. But i don't know if i should actually start shopping around for something that cheap and having every one of them ending up complete . |
