could it be possible to host an event like let's say Love Parade, Creamfields, Homelands, etc.

There are tons of areas that can host it.
Flushing Meadows
Great Lawn
Brooklyn Bridge
Floyd Bennett Field

just to name a few.

What kind of logistics are we talking here. If the city can host the likes of Dave Matthews Band or the US Open they can host these types of parties. Or if they can host some silly orange curtains hanging in CP they can do this stuff too.

This city has lots of open spaces that do not get used.

Imagine if EMD artists played on the Great Lawn....or the Love Parade under the Unisphere in Flushing Meadows.

After attending a concert at Keyspan Park in Coney Island, I think that would be a great venue for a medium scale EDM event.

Transit hubs right there, alot of parking, Boardwalk, beach, the baseball staduim could be used as a main stage there are huge open air walkways around it for ample dance floor room. There is also a huge tented area and synthetic playing field in the back that could be used for smaller stages.

I think the very best place to do this wold be the Floyd Benning Field. It's not anywhere near a train but there are a few buses that go there. Extremely easy to find if driving, located far from any residential buildings. Furthermore, you could charter a couple of shuttle buses to take you from a local large train station for like 5 bucks a person and that will raise massive amounts of money. would be great for the city.

"electronic music" is a bad word here in NYC apparently... of course with an event like that, youd get DJs like Jonathan Peters on the bill and with DJs like Jonathan Peters on the bill, you got a lot of rowdy drugged up kids running around wherever they would throw this event. most people will say, "cmon, youre generalizing", but no, thats what would end up happening... if not JP, then Boris. it'd be a repeat of Ultra Music Festival with 90% house.... and Oakenfold  of course id hope for it to be otherwise but i dont tthink this city would ever dare to do something like that... which is funny considering there was a study done which said that theres a larger rate of drug use at concerts and rock events than at clubs... which is funny considering all my rock friends call my music "drug music" and yet, theyre all pot heads and use wierd drugs... thats just the "state of the union" for now, i would hope for it to change and have a nice event like SF Love Parade did... huge DJ lineup, i was amazed at the DJs they brought this year...

yea the SF loveparade is gettin better every year !! but i really dont see NYC hosting Love Parade because of the fact that like eco said it would just bring some of the horrible crowds along with their dj's, maybe somethin at the meadows though that would b very interesting since the space is huge.

first of rock music is usually hightened by pot or LSD use. that's about it. i have a ton of CDs especially for LSD use, one of my fav called Pocrupine Tree - Voyage 34: The complete trip. While, ravers and clubbers generally use E along with bud and acid. So you can't say one group does more than the other since they do different . I'd say E is much worse for you than pot is.

Second of all, JP and Boris thing you're probably right about but NYC gets ALOT of great DJs come through who I'm sure wouldn't mind doing a good event. Furthermore, if it's being promoted and thrown by a good company the event could be great.

The only problem that faces NYC's edm scence is that there's no edm scene, or a very little one. mostly it's a bunch of kids who go to clubs to do drugs and "rave" while listening to armin and screaming about how unbelievable shivers is.

I read in a NY Times article that they city would never do an event such as the DMB playing at the Great Lawn again b/c it cost the city millions of dollars in damage done to the grass and other things that were knocked down, clean-up, etc. So for there to be an electronic DANCE music event in Central Park other than Rumsey Playfield wouldn't happen. It's contained and fenced off from the rich Upper East Siders.
And yes, I agree with "electronic music" being frowned upon in NYC. If Bloomie takes away cabaret licenses in bars, he wouldn't tolerate such dance events in his beloved city. On the other hand,Gavin Newsom, being the liberal democrat mayor that he is, doesn't mind the Love Parade strolling through SF...but let's not get into politics.

Good idea since the field is as large as JFK. And far away from neighbors complaining about the noise.

But the moment they host another non-EDM concert on the Great Lawn I'm gonna flip.

i see absolutely no reason why it can't be held at the field. the only problem as i've said would be the ride there but if you set up shuttles you make even more money.
