Music Sharing Programs Share Advertiser's 'Trojan' Spyware

"Spyware" - software that can secretly collect data about an individual's use of their PC - has been a controversial issue for companies as large as Microsoft Corp. But a mysterious outfit that may be located in Las Vegas could be the first to have its software branded as a malicious Trojan by anti-virus companies.

Many users of peer-to-peer file sharing software, including the Gnutella gateways LimeWire and BearShare and the FastTrack-based Grokster and Kazaa/Morpheus, are learning this week that promotional software bundled with their applications appeared to be reporting their online activities to a Web site registered to a man with a Las Vegas address.
Anti-virus firms such as Symantec and F-Secure say that software that was billed as installing desktop shortcuts for a promotion called ClickTillUWin also secretly installed a Trojan program that later downloaded and installed additional software - the actual spyware - from a remote Web server.

Some anti-virus software, such as Symantec's Norton AntiVirus were reporting labeling the ClickTillUWin software as" Backdoor.Trojan" before Dec.29, when the security companies began updating their virus definitions to give the strange code its own moniker: DlDer.

F-Secure said that DlDer is a two-fisted Trojan that begins with the installation of the file "dlder.exe" - an installation that can occur even if the unwitting user says "No" to a prompt requesting permission to add the ClickTillUWin shortcuts.

There's a couple of programs that I use for this type of stuff...
Popup Killer and Ad-Aware...
You should be able to find those easy enough...but if you can't just let me know...

Those programs won't work for this. It's not a popup ad or anything like that. Basically programs could be spying on you even with those programs.

I saw another article which told you what to look for. It was a hidden folder in your windows/ directory. Can't remember exactly what the folder was though. Started with an "E"

Could it possibly have been Ezula? This program keeps on giving me ... Just a guess though. Anywho, i use ZoneAlarm to monitor anything using my internet connection so i always know whats going on... You should all do the same.

Yeah, if anyone can find a prog. to get rid of em....
And the sad thing is... Morpheus said like 6 months ago that the prog's new vers. had no spyware, those lying bastards!!!
Maybe that's what caused all that German Porno to pop up every hour on my screen! had to wipe the harddrive to get rid of it.
and i wanna keep using Morpheus, cuz that's how i get my warez.

I got rid of all my spywayre a little while back. One suggestion I have is BE CAREFUL. I deleted webhancer and it took me 4 days to figure out how to get my internet connection working again. It had something to dowith removing the stuff from the registry, since I never mess around in there I didn't know how to do it. But clear that up. Its just as bad as a lot of the viruses out there, just ran by corporations. I'm really sick of being forcefed Bull personally, not just ads like this but everywhere.

there must be a safer way to remove those progs (viruses).....
I'm not sure, but i think Anti-Virus companies might be coming up with i solution...but that might take some time..
Personally....i can't stand the fact that i'm bieng watched...
This sucks.....

There is a past thread about this, i will let you search for it, but there is a program that finds the spyware files, but the problem is some progrmas wont run without the spyware stuff

You have to be nuts not to have a firewall installed these days anyway, there's so many good ones out there that are free.

I've got tiny personal firewall and it seems to work fine, it's dead simple, it doesn't stop the spyware from getting onto your system but it can at least render it harmless by stopping it from connecting to whatever in ad server it's trying to connect to.
