Z103 house music is not REAL house music? What the hell is "real" house music? Is the house that Z103 plays imaginary?

Is Deep Dish or Armand van Helden not real house music to you? Oh right, I guess you're too "cool" and that Deep Dish is too "commercial" for you right? Or is it simply the fact that Z103 it's not "real" because Z103 plays it, yet it's "real" when Club 246 drops it on their airwaves?

Yet I see the very same snobs such as yourself first in line whenever a massive event like Labour of Love happens, and the same overhyped Djs such as Cox, Digweed, and Deep Dish come to town.

With you all the way....except for the "overhyped" Cox....he is a genius....I find you get alot of that perception here....nevermind the anti-italian sentiment through the constant barage of "gino" comments......
Jayx1
You dont have to be italian to be a gino. You should know that! Although they were definately the originators. LOL

Anyways the problem with radio is that its so sterilized. They play the same 5 songs 15 times a day for 3 months... maaaaaaaaan dat!

LOL

Anyways i wouldnt mind radio playing all the music i listen to and having everyone else like it. But how music is presented in North America on the radio leads it to become something more than it was intended. Plus it gets over played so much that many music enthusiasts get sick of it. ALso radio here gets stuff 6 months to 2 years after the rest of the world.

Actaully im not a big fan of house. In fact alot of it I dont like.
I've just been told from true house music lovers that Z103 plays too much commercial crap. And since they play lots of crappy old trance tunes or eurodance and claim it too be amazing "trance" music, I would assume they do the same for house music.
Sure.. they do occasionally play some good tracks.. just alot of it isnt. The music they play does little to define the genre that they claim it to be part of. The only good thing I can say, is that Z103 is the only radio station which actually plays some form of EDM. Even though alot of it is still commercial, it will still interest people into the world of EDM so that they can truly find the style of music which best suits them.

Also.. at Labour Of Love, I was first in line.. but only to hear Blank & Jones, Armin & Schulz.
:D

meanwhile armin plays some of the most commercial stuff out there

as much as i hate commercial radio these days, i need to give credit when it is due.

back in 1991 i first started listening to EDM (euro, freestyle, house) on stations like 640 "the hog" and all hits 680. then energy108 came around, along with power 88.5 and 103.5. as hard as it may be to believe, my group of friends in high school was a big group of italian ginos. we would spend our weekends clubbing at shock, paparazzi, goddess, original palazzo, to name a few. although tony monaco does have a slight resemblance to ron jeremy, he was one of the radio hosts that i was listening to in those years and has helped in making my musical taste buds what they are today.

cheers to tony monaco and matt 'the hammer' wreggit.

ps. z103 still plays extreme amounts of cheese to little gino wanna-be's that think they know the party scene.

But that was when radio was half way decent. Not just for dance either. Rock and alternative also had innovators like CFNY 102.1. The current state of canadian radio is atrocious.

true. there wasnt much of an 'underground' scene back then so commercial radio was all we really had. but my point is that commercial radio is what helped make most of us what we are today.

Are you kidding? thats when the underground scene was the most active! Radio then picked up on it and went with it. Good old dance 108 was the first station to commercially play modern dance music in Toronto continuously and they did a great job IMO. Before there were snippets of chris sheppard (when he actually played innovative good stuff) on CFNY. Even later when Dance 108 became Energy 108 they were great until around 96/97 when Shaw cable bought them out. That was the beginning of the end for them. I knew they were toast when they cancelled their live to airs which at the time were the best on the radio.

I remember Energy 108 had streetbeat every night at 6pm which was a music show that showcased the newest house and electronic music and discussed the djs and artists thouroughly as well as raves and clubs in the city. When that was cancelled in 96 it was the beginning of the end of radio in toronto.

Exactly. Even though I may not like it now, I'll never hate on Z103 because without it, I'd still be listening to whatever else I was listening to back then.
