wow those are some really nice pictures. i showed them to my mother and my father (my father is from breda), and they thought they were really well done. my dad even recognized a few ("Oh, thats the red light district!"). i may also show them to my 98 year old grandmother, who was born in amsterdam.
well, jp, those are some seriously good lookin pictures, man, makes me want to go to amsterdam for Trance Energy more than ever! (half because of the pictures, half becasue of the sweet-ass line-up!!)) |

Using nightmode gives dark and boring pictures. Automatic modes like landscape & portret are all crap. Manual (M) is your friend :)
These pictures were not edited, just cropped in hight for a wider view and slighty sharpened. Knowing the right settings at every individual picture saves time and gives better results than using Photoshop. |
Can you tell us which camera you used? And the specifications. Or is it some big secret for you which you dont want to share with us. |

Yeah the pictures are good but no offense to JP they are far from being the best I have ever seen....
Also I'm not sure if this is a result from resizing and post processing but there's mad pixellation and I don't consider these shots crystal clear far from it.
There's really no big trick to taking pictures like that. First you need a camera with Manual control ( as jp previously mentionned ).
Second you need to figure out what works best with various aperture ( f stop ) and time exposure settings ( 1/2 second, 1 second 2 seconds etc )
There is no magic recipe to taking pics like that you just need to expirement with various settings and take loads of pics till the result comes out well.
( ps I don't consider the pics I'm about to show you to be great but they're just exemples )

Like I already said, these were not 'improved' with Photoshop or whatever. Just sharpened which is normal for digital photography. All crystal clear pictures haven been cleaned by post-processing. I don't use those digital aids.
I don't have the time to take 20 pictures before I finally get a good result. Besides there is a difference between taking a normal nightshot or taking one with a certain 'vibe'. What I mean to say by that is looking at a photo and having the idea you are actually standing there.
Pictures that draw your attention are by definition good pictures.
Every photographer has his own style and I happen to like bright 'Japanese' colors.
Talking about camera's. You need to buy one that fits you (what are you going to use it for), not one that has good specs on paper or just looks cool. A lot of people buy camera's for parties but end up disappointed because of the blurry/greyish pics they take. Not all point-and-shoot camera's have good results in automode which in the end 95% of those people are using despite the manual options.
Ps: If I were you i'd change some setting on your Dimage F100
F4.0 is way too high. F2.8 (max) would be much better. After doing that you can increase shuttertime without getting a red or yellow sky.
Second of all using multi-segment is not-done. Average would be much better. |

| Ive got a Canon SD 550 7.1 pix. Its got a load of crazy cool stuff, the MAnual and such, I just dont know how to take pics like that. I learned on the normal cameras, but not on digital. :-( GOod PicS! |

Oh I know the Dimage F100 sucks. It's actually dead now.
I am considering getting a Nikon D70s but that's a whole different ballpark.
Btw these pics are from 2003 and they were taken on the go and seeing it's really not a great camera and I hate how you adjust settings it's a pain in the ass to get good results. |
