I play guitar, keyboard, and trumpet. The keyboard was self-taught though, which is why I suck at recording ;) |

honestly...while knowing how to play an instrument is truly beneficial to producing, i don't think it's necessary at all. with today's synths and sequencers, all you really need is a solid music theory foundation. and i know many of us here are teaching ourselves music theory via the internet :toocool:
that said...i play the piano..haha...i wanted to move away from boring classical to something more interesting...hence, EDM! |

Play around on the piano sometimes, but have no theory foundation.
Didn't think it was needed until recently i really had the problem of not knowing, only searching the next chord on hearing . |

Nope, no real knowledge of music theory or composition.
Me making music is so fun. At least I am trying to learn scales now after haunting this forum for months... |

I had alot of musicial training, grade 6 classical piano, grade 5 musical theory (dropped out before I finished grade 5 though), 2 years learning classic flute when I was younger, and self-tought on guitar and drums from almost 2 years now... And I still suck on all these instruments :p
But the piano lessons have helped me alot, and the first 2 years I spent in musical theory (basic chords, harmonies and so on), the more advanced stuff has never helped the least bit in my music production, but my drumming has also helped alot. I have a much better feel for all rhythm now. I reccommend everyone to get a drumkit, if they can :) |

I had some foundational music theory from childhood. But I started producing not knowing much more than the terminology and what the names of the black and white keys were.
I did learn some music theory along the way. Strange though. For it seems that the more theory I learned, the less creative I became...
