Austin: Gabriel & Dresden AND no Filo & Peri Review
View this Thread in Original format

Gabriel & Dresden: Solid B+ show. G & D started from a cold stop (alwasy brave), & started with their remake of "Dust in the Wind". I adore that song, I hope they put it on their new album. Also played
Here is the House (their remix, not their remake),
Alive
Noone on Earth (crowd favorite)
Tracking Treasure Down (my personal favorite)
Arcadia

G & D honored the sponsors (Tuaca), by doing shots.

I was on fire with the trainspotting. The crowd was enthuastic, even a little too crowded on the dance floor. I will call out JBooty for clinging like a barnacle to the bass speaker in the back (to look at the fish-netted go-go dancers?), as my over-dressed self fended for myself on the dance floor. I will also, completely randomly, call out Zeonfiend for being the second biggest poster after Dirk W, but yet NEVER coming to a show. What's with THAT, Zeonfiend?

Why only a B+? I saw G & D in Houston in August, & for Halloween in SF, & listen to their mixes when I go running. I am a little G & Ded out.

Matthias did a great job opening, people were dancing. I wish I could have talked to Matthias more, but a) it was loud & b) I didn't want to mess up his game with the cute girl he was talking to. I also saw Racing4hoes.

I went to the after-show at Karma, but around 3:30 found out G & D had a 7 am flight so weren't coming.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Saturday night: Vue (upstairs): Music: A+. Crowd: Not Applicable.

(Edit: the dJ mentioned in the post below is not Filo & Peri)

What if there was an incredible show, & noone came? That's what happened to poor Filo & Peri. Incredible music, good lights, good sound system: noone there. This is why I'm not a promoter--I do NOT know why ~500 people came to see ATB, an extermely mediocre DJ, & perhaps 1/10 that number came to Filo & Peri.

I came superlate, as I was hanging out with a friend who's moving to London. She went home at 1:30 AM, & I thought "great, I can sneak over & catch the end of the show!" NOONE was there. Exactly the sort of music I like, but noone there.
My theories:
insufficient publicity?
everyone tired out from the night before?
Confusing alley entrance?

I don't know, I just don't know.

I didn't expect a huge crowd, but I expected more than 10 people. I feel bad for the promoter.

LOL, I did even catch her name much less her phone number. It was apparent to me her only interest in me was the fact I was playing earlier, if I was there just to see G&D having not of playd I dont think she woulda been as friendly..but who knows.

Don't be afriad to talk to me if ya want tho. I don't have any damn game as it is to mess up:haha:

*sigh*

Max Graham used to be my hero back in the day. During the past year, he's been producing excrement, layered with coat of mainstream hogwash.

I still dig his sidechain remixes, wish I had more of em besides the one of SToppage Time

Unfortunately...thats the way the industry is. The same thing happened when NU NRG was brought. When people see names like Paul Oakenfold, ATB, George Acosta, Bad Boy Bill, Irene, etc on a flyer...the majority will come out cuz of the name recognition.

4 years ago if Armin van Buuren came to TX, he wouldn't have gotten nearly the turnout as he does now because he's built up a name for himself. Whereas Filo & Peri, Andy Moor, Markus Sculz, and the other guys who will probably be big here in the next 2-3 years won't get as much of a turnout now...the only people who really know them are the educated fans and the local djs/producers familiar with his work. I wish it didn't have to be like that, but unfortunately that's the way things are here.

Don't get me wrong..I'm not a promoter myself, just calling it as Ive seen it the last 5 years. Jojo or Sean C would have a better insight on it perhaps.

Well NU NRG had more people i would think than Filo&Peri??..I cant believe i ing missed it..I had to attend a wedding/party and that took most of my time..driving back from Round Rock was most of the time wasted..but...for some ing REASON..i got the ing flyer..and looked at it..but got the dates confused..!..but yeah Matthias, the promoting for Filo&Peri was wack...i feel bad for Filo&Peri!!..i mean c'mon, what kinda perspective are they going to have now about Austin nextime they are brought. - I just hope they get their own ing flyer and not added on in small letters with other upcoming events.- If they needed help geting people..i would have gladly handed them fliers out and Made sure they came..even if i had to give out some free party favors.- Mainly im pissed at Self cause( well i was kinda drunk on the way back to down town )..but i should have payed more attention also. *shrugs*

Well, it really comes down to promotion. I'm not sure how many flyers were passed out but I didn't see much of anything online and I think I was the only "word of mouth" in SA. If you hype something enough on a vehicle like MySpace, some people will go because the venue is reputable and they will feel its the place to be.

I really wish I could have made it out now but I've been feeling pretty under the weather. I hope Bo & Dom don't have a bad impression of TX.

I'm not a professional promoter, but if I can pull 100 people with no flyers for an upcoming House producer like Jake Childs at a nice San Antonio bar that is known for Conjunto music...someone should be able to pull twice that with Bo & Dom and a venue like Sky/Vue.

it was the promotion, the promoter just doesnt know how to promote in my honest opinion. he is a good guy but just cant get the word out. i wanted to go but was so wasted from gabriel and dresden i couldnt function. damn shame too miss as well

How do you know I wasn't there? I won't be in BDUs at gigs, after all. :happy2:

I made it to Zabiela at Lizard Lounge as a total incognito, but that's really the last one I've been able to make. I don't exactly have a nice steady 9-to-5 job with guaranteed weekends off, and the Katrina benefit happened in mid-week, which is an absolute impossibility for me to drop in on for any show. :p

Seriously, I've missed so many shows I've wanted to make, my fury could power a thousand suns. Maybe 2006 will go a bit easier before the Cav goes back to Iraq.

Markus is pretty big...his set at 10:15 Folsom was probably my favorite of 2004.

Andy Moor? I would LOVE to see him.

Matthias...why didn't you ask her her name?

Dave Molina: Sorry to hear you've been sick.

Remembrance: Yes, Sky has gogo dancers now. They dance on the speakers in the back.

Zeon: some day you'll come to a show.

I dont doubt Markus is big.. but I wouldn't know how big of a turnout he would get in Texas. I could be wrong...and perhaps he would get a great turnout; if that is the case then someone really needs to bring him. IMO he owned Armin at Club Spin in South Beach during wmc.

Apparently he is playing at WMC this year. I am highly interested in seeing him as well as his productions the past year and a half have been phenominal, as well as his earlier work with Leama. If he keeps up his pace, I predict him being in the top 5 no later than 2007.
