agreed..
this CD would have had loads of potential, as there were alot of enjoyable tunes on it, too bad there were too many tunes that simply werent any good..
its collecting dust at my house after about 5 listens.. |

| The first 5 tracks or so on CD1 are brilliant. The mood really sets in and things flow really nicely. I wish he kept that feeling throughout, but not a bad mix in the end. |

I think isos 4 is good, but the others are better and the mix is much better...
and imo, 2005:
asot2005 > isos 4 > tpod2...

word up. some good tunes here and there, but overall a lazy and hastily slapped-together comp.
isos 1 prob. has the best tunes of the series, but it stops there and doesn't fully deliver on building the atmosphere it promises. isos 3, and especially 2, are wonderfully ordered and programmed.
unless tijs can pare things down to a single cd of singular quality, isos should join the magik series in the retirement home. |

he is capable of good mixing, why he doesn't do it, i don't know...
i think he intentionally likes to mix in a way, that is obvious that he is mixing in a track. sometimes what he does works EXCELLENTLY (hard to tell when one track ends, and the other finishes), other times, it comes off horrible.

As found on the tiesto.hu website - in his interview from February, a month or so from the recording of this cd comp. he expressed his intentions of an upcoming Nyana 2...
Pretty weird they decided to make it an ISOS in the end then.
Firmly think thats a marketing decision from his management team - not from Tijs. He was all set to continue the Nyana series - whereby none of his other mix cd series get tarnished... even if he royally fcuks it up.
On another note - really strange the timing of the compilation too. The first two ISOS were released after Ibiza season when he was already in that "summery" mood and happy with the tracks.
Maybe that wasnt the case on Panama (May 2002), but he still found a pretty nice order (for the first 6-7 tunes)...
If they'd have waited till the end of this season in Ibiza... the ISOS he could put out now would be freaking quality. All that housey he is now spinning and BETTER mcprog/slow trance sounds instead of what he had to be content with using in Spring 05.

I think the decision to make 2 CDs also came from record company because you can better sale albums with 2 CDs than with one...
There are often differnet interests of the record company and the dj / producer but in the end the company mostly makes the last decision :rolleyes: |

Ok, this is why I was disappointed with ISOS4:
1) Previous ISOS albums all started off so dreamy, ambient, and just something that I think really helped set the mood for the entire album. And that was what I was used to.
And what did ISOS4 start with? Like A Waterfall. ugh. granted, the song is all right - it shouldn't be used to start an ISOS album. Palma Solane i think was a better choice....but still a little too upbeat/"fast" for what normally started off the series.
2) The endings of all ISOS albums were EXPLOSIVE. Prime example: Airtight. I mean, this track is LOUD and ends on a final solid note. All the series ended on a solid one final note. It was a complete conclusion. a true real finale.
and what did ISOS4 end with? Only One [Rave Mix]. ugh. hardly explosive and it ing fades out at the end!!!! WTF?! Why does a mix CD fade out!? this is something that happens on live albums [i.e. Universal Regligion 2004, etc...]. VERY disappointing.
3) Mixing. previous series were mixed a lot better. with ISOS4, it's not that the beats don't match up - or that you can hear double basslines overlapping horribly....but the mixing is done abruptly. the tracks change i think too fast. i.e tracks 1 to 2 on disc 2. wow.
Previous series were mixed a lot more smoother - and there were longer transitions between tracks. on ISOS2, going from track 13 to 14 , you can hear Airtight like 45 seconds before it even comes around. it's faint - but it builds up to when the track comes in full force. i just think that's amazing.
4) Overall tracks. this did not need to be a 2x CD. honestly, the best 14 or 15 tracks should have been combined into one - and have less "fluff" in between. And i personally hate thank Junkie XL remix of UR. ugh. awful.
Things I liked about ISOS4:
1) Palma Solane. granted, it's not the best starting track, it's still amazing. this i think could have been an amazing ending. one of my fav tracks.
2) Perfect Silence. here we go - this is how an ISOS series should end. fantastic ending. one of my favorite tracks of all time.
3) other tracks: Arcadia, The Loves we Lost, La Noche, Why, Bad [although perhaps not appropriate for an ISOS feel], Netherworld, and Sands of Time & Evolution. But really, these tracks should have just been on ONE album, and not spread about two.
This is just what i think. maybe faster and abrubter mixing is preferred by others. maybe people like the more upbeat feel and the more aggressive intros. but to me, it just doesn't really seem like a TRUE ISOS album. |

You are damn right Tubularbills.
The main problem of ISOS 4 is that it is compared to 1-3. They should gave it a different name.
ISOS 1-3 had such great moods and really were a dreamy journey through beautiful sounds.
They had a feeling of chilling at a sunny beach.
There are too many tracks in ISOS 4 that doesn't cover this mood and doesn't wake this feelings.
I couldn't "dive" into the music like I could in ISOS 1-3 because of the transitions. They are too short and not smooth enough. And of course that there are many beat-matching errors doesn't make it better :tongue2 |
