The Archos Gmini connects via USB 2.0 as a Mass Storage Device (external hard drive).

IMO I-Pods suck - The sound quality isn't as good as what else is out there, the battery life sucks, and it's a waste of money comparatively.

AND they're just a stupid fad. Apple's very good at marketing crappy products by making them look pretty and seem cool. They're not.

The sound quality is fine unless you've got ears like a fennec fox. The battery life is perfectly fine, I don't know why people bitch about this. Do fads last 4 years and counting? No. Is the iPod a crappy product? no.

I was in the same boat like 2 days ago, lol. I decided to go with a Toshiba Gigabeat F10. 10 gigs, and you can find them being sold online for like $220. Bestbuy.ca just had a deal where you could have grabbed one for 250 (not sure if they still have some in stock - 2 left on Saturday). Screw paying almost 400 for an iPod.

$220 for 10GB or $379 for 30GB. HUGE HUGE HUGE difference in capacity here dude.

get an mp3 player like 99% of the other players out there that don't require the use of iTunes or some 3rd party software to get around it

In the 4 years I've owned iPods, not once have I used iTunes to transfer the songs. EphPod is vastly superior and free. What's the difference between using superior 3rd party software to something like Musicmatch Jukebox or any other horse proprietary software that a manufacturer bundles with their product?

The only problem I've got with the competing products is not that they're shoddy products, it's that almost every one of them has a vastly inferior user interface compared to the iPod's silky smooth navigational sex.

I've thought about this, and 10 gigs of music is enough for me to have at one time. True, I won't be able to store my whole music collection on it, but it's enough that i don't have to connect it up to my PC to change songs every week.

But yes, they're hot as . IMO, iPod focuses more on the eye-candy and UI where the other players focus more on features. At least price-relative.

I've got about 11GB of my 3rd-gen 15GB iPod filled up, I think 15-20 will be my sweet spot.

Oh yeah, the 20GB Gigabeat is just as much as a 30GB iPod Video. Hmmmm!

FEEL THE POWER OF CALE'S WORDS.

This man is spot on (though I enjoy iTunes over EphPod... but I'll not quibble w/ him over that). I love the points, the intensity. SUPPORT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I VOTE for Cale to be the offical iPod spokesman!!! :D

Slow in what way?

The older models sure, but the new one should be fine with it's USB2.0

Hmmm...can't be using the same models as me then.
I certainly don't have those problems and mine's over 1.5yrs old! :clown:

Normally the Gigabeat IS overpriced - the F10 is normally fetching for over 300.

So I guess the lesson here is too look out for the deals, and check craigslist often.
