It should never be more complicated than hooking it to a USB connector and copying files like a normal drive.

so I suggest the iRivers, solid, above average quality, excellent prices.

iRiver is great . (except some of the new stuff lacks some features of before)

I LOVE MY I AUDIO x5.

supports many type of files, fm tuner, recorder, PLAYS VIDEO, usbtog, its recognized as a usb mass storage device. No need for ANY other software to run it. Plug it in and go about your business. The user interface is great too.

I got the 20gig version with a bigger battery. gets up to 25 hrs of audio playback and something like 12ish video iirc. The sound quality is better then an Ipod, at least in my experience. yes it was noticable.

Its awesome. I dislike IPODS. I dont like the stupid scroll wheel thingy, too many issues with them too, STUPID ITUNES, its a fad to own one.(and yeah its a fad to hate it to , but I have legitamate reasons)

So I went with somehting else, and I am very happy with what I got.

In september I bought a referbished 4th gen 20gig iPod, and have had no real problems with it. I payed $250 from Canada computers. As far as sound quality, only the headphones that come with it suck (i blew one of the speakers the first day).

As far as iTunes, you don't have to use it, there are other programs that have plug-ins that allow you to sync music using them. WinAmp for sure has one.

I personally really like my iPod. Tons of space, easy to sort and play music, and my battery life it great. I know there are a ton of other great MP3 players out there, iRiver is really good for example, but the only reason I bought my iPod is because there are so many accessories for them. Good luck finding a leather case, sound-dock or in-car connection for an MP3 player other than an iPod; chances are it's going to take you way longer.

I use mine everyday, to and from school, and also as a removable hard-drive for school work. Never once has it failed or done me wrong.

Sorry for anybody that has had bad experiances with theirs.

many people have had issues.Enough to make me look elsewhere.

sound docks are ghey. leather case is availible for almost any player out there... same for in car connections. you can get them at best buy...or better yet, most/if not all aftermarket decks these days have auxilary inputs, so you dont even need to spend too much on some brand name hook up. a simple male audio- rca or male audio- male audio cable can be used. (Even some oem decks have inputs)

can someone explain to me how iTunes works?

i can only use iTunes to transfer stuff onto iPod?

what about the iPod video? i can only use iTunes to transfer stuff?

what about stuff that is downloaded from a different source like soulseek or torrent? can i still get that stuff onto the iPod? or only stuff downloaded via iTunes and paid for via iTunes?

You can get anything onto an iPod.

iTunes automatically syncs with it so that when you plug it in it automatically transfers the files for you. (You can override this with a manual transfer.)

When you add the file you want to iTunes it automatically becomes part of the library you can transfer onto your iPod. (There are other applications that sync with iPods - WinAmp being one of them.)

With iTunes you can make Playlists though, which are damn handy for not having to scroll through 30 gb of music for 1 tune.

iTunes is also a media player, btw.

Yes they do, look at commercial rap.

I was going to get an i-pod video until I heard that not only did it only play certain types of videos but that even if you converted it to the proper type that there's a chance that it won't work.

Get the Motorola m500 Digital audio player... 5.0Gigs with an Fm tuner and recorder and an 8 band equalizer... Although they were discontinued due to a conflict of interest with their business partner: Apple...

But if you can find em... definately worth EVERY PENNY

So iriver vs. iaudio is what it seams to have come down to, can someone sell me to either side or a specific model around $300 that is the best bang for my buck as far as sound quality and everything else goes?

I use Anapod w/ my iPod. Anapod works great, syncs on detect of iPod, allows for data to be stored on the iPod in addition to music, allows for SQL based database of songs (read: amazing playlist generation ability), Anapod is only 1 MB in size and franky provides far better use and abuse of the iPod than any other iPod software I've tried.
