very cool site idea. i like the clean appearance. i'd like to help you with the a ton on this site. having tried to do a couple of the tracklist archive things on TA...it's really hard when you're the only one who can edit things hahaha...so that's really awesome.
is there going to be a certain format that all tracklists will be in? i think that would really keep things going nicely. |
Yeah, I know, it's tough when you can't edit the full tracklists. You never updated my addition, as well as the guy that followed me, in the Sasha Archive :p
And I was soooo proud of myself, too. :(

Definitely looking forward to this new site once it gets running. Such a pain to find tracklists in the forum on here because half of the time the search doesn't seem to work right. Lots of great work IDing done in there, it's just that there's no organization |

Well, this thread has certainly sparked some attention, but I think it would be beneficial for all of us if I brought this to light:
For the past 8 months, we have had a webste, with the same function, live on the internet. It has garnered over 120 000 hits since it opened last may, and the hits are rising. Below is a short description of what we have implemented, and what we plan to add in the next 2 months.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Well, here are the current functionalities that tracklists.ca offers:
* Monitoring of ETN and 2hp.ca audio streams. Currently using those two to showcase our live tracklist linking ability. When a show is live on the web, our system attempts to track down the corresponding tracklist within our database. If it does, it will display it for you. This is great when you want to know what song is currently being streamed.
* 3000 Tracklists in the database. Over 100 DJs, 22000 unique tracks and 10000 artists. Now, the data is not pure yet, we have some duplicates and it will be cleaned in due time.
* Ability to search by Artist name, Venue Name and Individual Tracks. This allows incredible flexibility, allowing us to generate cool statistics:
o Which tracks are played how often.
o Which tracks precede and follow certain tracks....
o What Track a DJ has played the most...
o Statistics possibilities are endless
* Ability to upload a tracklist. The tracklist is then in waiting for approval status, at which time a moderator can approve it, or reject it with comments, which you will receive.
* Ability to Register
* Ability to modify profile
* Ability to refer friends
* Ability to Reset password
* Ability to Email Webmaster
* Ability to Email Site Support
* Ability to view Source for Tracklists
In the near future, I am completing the following additions:
* Ability to Edit your own Tracklist, and submit changes for other tracklists.
* Ability to select which stream you want monitored
* Front End to tracklists.ca Winamp Radio Stream
----------------------------------------------------------
And that is what we have. I want to know what people think. My site and tnt_'s site are so similar in purpose, that there must be something we can do together. Looking forward to suggestions.

| It sounds like you've got a good thing going, I'm just totally sold on the utilization of the wikipedia-type format so people can basically edit on the fly without some sort of approval necessary. |

| To each his own I suppose, but I strongly believe that there should be moderation, I definitely don't want to be the owner of a site that could potentially have harmful or racist comments within a tracklist. |

| I suppose I didn't look at it from that perspective. That makes sense. How active are your moderators though? I surely hope it's not like getting a release up on discogs :haha: |

LOL, discogs certainly isn't the fastest around.
As for moderators, there are merely a few, and as it stands, I am refining the system, so there is still work to be done. The current tracklists were mostly added by mass import of text files we generated manually, from sources like tranceaddict.com
I wasn't planning on showing the new version till january, so a few things still need to be fine tuned / done. But you can add tracklists, and moderators check daily. You can also play around with searches, we still haven't really got much feedback from users. |

Its using the same software as wikepedia which allows anyone to become a user and contribute information. I'm still working on the navigation and I'm adding content myself but of course its not enough. Check the site out and if you can provide any help I'd be grateful - its something that will be useful for everyone here I guess.

my buddy made it, its pretty awesome,different format than yours but its already got a load of content/tracklists. gonna start streaming sets and live sets off it soon...kinda like etn.com but different styles i think. |
I wasnt aware of this website and tracklists.org was definitely not made to compete with this. In general I prefer the free-form editing allowed by wiki. |

easiest way is by visiting a URL like this:
http://www.tracklists.org/index.php/My Artist
then just click Edit and you're done. In order for the newly created artist page to be linked to the Artists category page include [[Category:Artists]] in the page's text and the rest is handled automatically. |

that's so awesome...
another question for you...
so a lot of times you'll have a set that is by two dj's... i.e. sasha & digweed...or sasha and zabiela...
how would you like that taken care of? hehe |
