Winamp 5 with DFX 7.3 and MMD3 skin... I don't care how much RAM it takes, I have 1 GB of RAM so it doesn't matter. :p And it sounds very good. :)

But how to raise or lower the volume? And from where can I download equaliser presets to load in it?

You will need plugins. Go to the Apollo homepage and look for them. A part of the plugins (especially input plugins) is stored on the Apollo homepage. There u will also find a small program, that will read your Winamp equalizer settings and will convert them to Apollo equalizer settings.

But now the more interesting thing: the plugin interface API for "general plugins", "DSP plugins", and for "visualization plugins" is exactly the same as for Winamp 5. You can use all these plugins from Winamp and they will work with Apollo. Nice eh? Winamp offers a huge load of such plugins and u can use them with Apollo.

Foobar2000 seems to be the perfect player. Very clean too, for all those of us tired of flashy design... and functional... and slightly better sound, I think. Not sure though.

I have 1 GB too, but it's still annoying to have a goddamn music player hog such a big chunk of it. Plus it loads slow.

I never moved on from winamp 2.8. I've tried the most popular ones recently, but they were all too sluggish so moved back to 2.8. Its simply the best... plays the music, is simple to use and damn fast to load!!

it: I use Media Player. My speakers are so wank that I hardly ever play music on the PC anyway.

On linux I use amarok or Alsaplayer depending on what I'm doing, alsaplayer is really minimal featurewise but I can route its playback through pretty much any sound manipulation program on linux, amorok is closer to a winamp equivalent.

Ah yes, foobar2000 is better than Winamp. You can directly hear it by fast switching between the two programs for the same mp3-file.

And Apollo is better than both foobar2000 and Winamp (for mp3 files).
