I broke my toe ing around at work which means it is not covered under worker's comp. I dont have insurance. My left big toe is the broken one. Luckily, the break and the pain are minor. However, it's pretty unsightly.

The break is right under the nail and is on the left side. It's a small crack, but not broken through. Im hoping for some advice besides keep off it (which is impossible during arguably the busiest week of the year). Also, I know my feet are kind of nasty looking. You know what? I'm a guy, and while I believe in good grooming, no one ever sees my feet, so apart from washing them and trimming the nails, I don't do to them.

my feet could probably be in a commercial. but, even though u broke it under your own negligance, u should still be able to get worker comp even if it was due to negligance. i say consult a lawyer on this. its free with most.

same thing happened to me. i broke my index finger, and my nail had lots of blood under it. got smashed in one of those double swinging doors restaraunts have into the kitchen. some guy just barreled right through and i was there with glasses in both my hands.

the only thing the employer cared about was that i wasnt hurt enough to not be able to work. s!!

I can safely say that my feet are a lot uglier :(

There's really not much even a doctor would do with a broken toe, unless it was a grossly compound fracture (which you don't have), besides prescribe pain meds. Broken toes are fairly common, but there's really no point in splinting them since they are fairly immobile and inflexible anyway. If you think it would make you feel better, you can always splint it to another toe by wrapping it around the one next to it.

Besides that, take some Tylenol, wear some nice padded socks, ice it at night and keep it elevated when possible.

FYI, yes I am currently in school studying "such things"...lol.

I have this pic of my foot on my comp. I'm not sure if I should post it. :nervous:

If you broke your foot at work then you should be compensated. Why are not able to get workers compensation?? It shouldn't matter if you are messing around or not; your employer is liable for everything that happens to you while you are working for them. You should seriously check up on that. Alot of employers try to sneak out of paying compo & will just tell you that you are not covered with a stupid excuse

have you tried to wiggle your big toe?

Well, even if you were insured, it wouldn't do you any good. It just needs time to heal, which like it or not means keeping off it.

Just ACE bandage your foot, get some blue ice packs and some ibuprofen. I've broken both of my big toes, both times my doctor sent me right back out the door telling me to do the above. It'll hurt for a bit, but broken toes really aren't that bad.

there is nothing you can do for a broken toe anyway, so suck it up. i've broken my toe 3 times (only bones i've broken) and i just had to tape the broken toe to the one next to it.

oh and by the way, you're toe doesn't look broken...just badly bruised in the toenail. if it was broken, the whole side of your foot would be black and blue. i mean i could be wrong, but all the times i broke mine, there was nasty bruising and i'm pretty sure that any broken bone is accompanied by that kind of bruising (looks like a dark purple).
