is it me or in the uk did we stop using that word to describe a rather nice trance music based clubbing event back in 1995? you transatlantians use it all the time, but then again you all like paul van dyke too *gets flashback of mid 90s argh!!!" ***AHEM***
we dont. but i cant think what we say insted!!! er... any ideas? :)
{b.s.e.}

that word bringz a shiver SINCE 1997...

the only use of the word rave here in Holland i can recall is from "Rave the City", back in the oldstyle hardcore ages :)
Sir. Lunchalot
A rave as I remember the word was a party in the middle of nowhere. You were informed only hours before the party because they were illegal. In the beginning it had no connection to techno/trance but got associated with it over time.
Dj O'Callaghan
Yeah the illegal raves were when the word started to be used as Lunchalot said. But like the legal events like Dreamscape and Helter Skelter were still know as raves and played Happy Hardcore, Gabba Techno, Old Skool, House ,and Drum & Bass.

Your right that we stopped using it in the UK in 1995 because the rave scene died down, and house and techno started getting played in more clubs and it was getting recognised. Rave totally properly ended in 1998 and the Uk, sometimes on here when people say rave I think their taking the piss because we don't use the word in the UK but I end up realising that theres still like rave scenes existing in these countries, its like if someone says raver to me I picture someone with a wistle in a beanie hat with a massive smily face printed on a t-shirt dancing in some warehouse lol. :)
RavingLunatic
ha.. yeah in canada, we call it the "rave" scene all the time..

we throw them in county halls, outdoors, bars, whatever..

I've never worn phatpants or blown a whistle at a rave though. i would be really annoyed if someone started blowing a whistle in fact.

(although I have worn one of those oxygen masks, with vics in it, and I have eaten extasy and danced like a madman)

call me a raver if you like, whatever. I like trance, I'll go wherever it is played loud, you want to label me, go right ahead.

I think that its informative to learn a little about "the scene" in other countries mainly the UK being from the US I wonder about the words candykid and candyraver are those terms created here or have they too been passed down?

(candyraver): a club goer wearing bright flashy colors sporting fake jewelry, kid toys, passys, and chemlights...

(candykid): even worse strongly remind you of 5yr olds but dont mistake this liquifing dance moves and a strong urge to get attention...
RavingLunatic
yuck, candy kids are the worst! although I respect their right to wear whatever they want, they look like morons!

I'm glad I never went through that stage.
Dj O'Callaghan
Nah I don't label anyone who respects the music.

No Candyraver or Candykid isn't used here, we have people hear that dress in cyber sounds simular with the flashy lights, fluoresent clothes and hair and stuff, but most of them are nice people and are not there to show off.

Here we have Beer Boys or as here some of the other Brits in the Uk forum before call them Shermanators (wicked word), and their the biggest wankers like fair enough I sometimes drink beer in clubs, but I don't act or dress like these mugs who wear ben sherman shirts know nothing about the music, and are there to start trouble, and also their there to pull the dirty slappers.

The use of Vicks on pills hahaha actually comes from the old British rave scene and an old dance act Altern 8 used to rub it in these masks they used to wear, and it spread like wildfire all over the UK (read that in mixmag or mistry the other week lol I weren't around in the raves of 91 lol), it looks like its been going in Canada and the states now for a while hahaha wicked.

hey...what's so bad about paul van dyk?

and the reason we still use the term raves here is because trance is still underground here. nobody knows anything about trace....i'm the local expert around here in a metropolitan population of 5 million.
