Sounds pretty illegal what he is going to do...I mean he can check net connection (which takes 2 seconds) but he is totally unable to access personal files, there is no right that would allow him to.

So... today started off arguably terrible... It seemed like everyone I talked to this morning just had bad news for me, starting from the moment I woke up, but in the end, just about everything has worked out to be totally sick...
I got up, and contacted my landlord about what was going on, asking what his deal was, and what he planned on checking when he "dropped by." He proceeded to tell me that they just wanted to monitor bandwidth in some of the apartments and see what people were doing to hog so much bandwidth. I told him straight up that he wasn't allowed in my apartment, and that if he so much as tried to log on to my computer I'd know, and I'd bust him on it.
He got super irritated by this, and began berating me on the phone about how I was the prime suspect in the bandwidth case, how he was going to evict me, to which I replied "You know what Jeff, you're right, I download a TON of music, legally, and I can prove it."
His response:
"You're not allowed to download music on your internet connection here."

Bull, right? So he tells me right then and there that I'm probably "cut off" from the internet in our apartment building, a blatant violation of my lease, as $50 a month of my rent goes towards internet. His response was that I was "abusing my privileges" and that "Charter or any other internet service provider would kick you off too, go ahead, check with them."
So finally I just tell him that he'll hear from me later, and hang up the phone. I proceed to call my father as well as a friend of mine whose father is a DA in Dane Country (And is also VERY familiar with our lease), and long story short, after a couple of phone calls, I've got Charter Communications 5mb High Speed connection, and the bill is going to my landlord...
In reality, the problem is that he's just too cheap to pay for a connection to our building that will support the amount of users we have. I guess he just decided that rather than having a DA threaten him, he'd rather just give in to one tenant, and hope the rest don't notice...
Oh, and when I arrived back home from Charter (picking up my new cable modem etc.) he was here knocking on doors... I looked him right in the eye, gave it a laugh, and walked into my apartment, carrying a huge box that says "Charter High Speed" on it right in front of him... God it feels good to win.
Edit: I think I might have just made a big mistake though... he just stopped by my apartment to "check the numbers" on the ethernet jacks here, I let him in, showed the guy with him the plate, but when I came out I saw him basically searching my apartment and taking notes, presumably on areas where I violated my lease... And he also, unfortunately, saw an empty quarter barrel that's been sitting here since May, which is for sure a violation of my lease (No kegs).
I think I may have ed myself... though I'm fairly sure I can prove that the barrel wasn't drunk at the apartment, I could get ed by the structure and wording of my lease... :( |

I also don't think he'd necessarily try to evict me or anything, but at the same time, he's been a ing douche so far...
If he did try to evict me, I'd for sure punch him right in the face... He's just a bad human being... |

He didn't address it with me at the time, I went all Jack Bauer and got the barrel out of here without anyone seeing a thing so there's no longer any evidence, and at this point, it's just his word against mine... No evidence, no eviction.
That is, unless the TA's turn on me and alert him to this thread... :eek: |

if he notices anything illegal, just tell him your girlfriend has keys to your apartment and that she left her keg, bong, pot, and other various items at your place and you didn't notice them.
