I think the problem is not with the bouncers, but with the owners who don't give a about the fact that bouncers often treat club's patrons without any sort of respect.
I don't know how much that training will do, but I doubt it's going to make bouncers any friendlier. |

It's a mug's job, something to do to kill time until you get a real job.
Just speaking from experience. |
A muggs job?
I disagree, its tax free money, added to your "real" job income. People who do this as their main source of living, a different story. |

My thoughts exactly.
The last thing we need are more regulations. If any of you here don't think that the licensing costs will be passed onto to us, the patrons, guess again. Say goodbye to $5-$10 cover! |

First of all....I completely agree that this is a good idea....I would feel more comfortable going into a club knowing that the staff are properly trained to deal with any situation that arises.
Secondly, I don't see anywhere in that article that the training will be done through the government and payment needs to be made to them. You are all assuming that this will be put on by the government....yes the government will make its money through taxes (i.e. GST) but there are many training programs already in place for other jobs that are not government run.
How about we all wait and see what this training is and how it will be run before we jump all over the government and start calling it another cash grab. |

| aren't bouncers already given some kind of training by the club/company they work for? |

they might receive training from the bar but there was no regulations in place that they had to be certified to do the job.
Just like with my job....I have to have a licence and be certified to handle insurance claims...or just like police require training and certification.....Club/Bar owners have a high risk of liability as it already is but they are also responsible for the actions of the employees....when dealing with liability insurance claims things like having training and certifications is important so we can determine if the owner or bouncer are negligent. This training does not only benefit the bar but also benefits people like myself because when someone tries to claim against a club because a bouncer did something....I will be able to research the training they had and determine if it was reasonable what they did. It's amazing how little things like this can help industries that you wouldn't even associate with one another. |

| It's not too bad of an idea. It will keep some of the s out. I've been told but not really sure that this club in Waterloo called Phil's, the bouncers would pick out a drunk person and for no reason at all drag him them out, beat the out of them, call the cops and say that they were resisting getting thrown out or something like that so we forced him out. And of course the cop's going to believe the bouncers cuz the person's drunk and no one really listens to a drunk. |

I love going there cuz I hate rap and I don't mind listening to rock and punk every now and then AND I can't forget the $1.75 drinks. It's the cheapest place to get drunk. |

The point is, whoever is going to provide the training, it's going to cost the club owners a whole lot of money to comply with the regulations. That will make it more difficult for people to start up new clubs, and for the already-established clubs, they will pass those costs onto consumers by increased cover/drink prices.
This is good for no one. There is already a mechanism for ensuring that bouncers and other staff are properly trained: competition. |
