Favorite Christmas Memories

With so many people complaining that Christmas is now too commercial, I thought it would be better to think about the good times, and concentrate on what Christmas is really about, being together.
My favorite memory is from when i was a kid. My mom and I would always go to her friend's house for their annual Christmas party. I was new to the country at that point, and did not really know what Christmas parties were like.
These were awesome parties. The house was always super decorated with all the usual holiday stuff. There was a tonne of food. The company was always great, and there were always fun games to play with small prizes! And when you are a kid, any small prize is HUGE!
The best part of the parties for was how all the adults treated me as a person, and not as a kid. They let me speak my mind, ask questions, and they wouldn't send me off when 'adult' conversation were taking place. Within reason of course. Everybody was there to have a good time and there were no boundaries, labels or attitudes. You could feel the love! lol.
So what are some of your fav stories from this time of year? |

I miss having huge family Christmas dinners. If you're of Dutch heritage, you know how HUGE they can get (for instance, my mom alone has 5 brothers and 5 sisters). I'm talking 40+ people.
That's all stopped now though, so much of my family now lives in BC and North Carolina. |

Yeah thats a big family for sure! how many cousins do you have? I know my mom has like 43 first cousins!!! Last time i went back to india with her, i met like 20 of them, and I just couldnt take it anymore.
Unfortunatly, we have almost no family here in Canada. So its just me, my mom, and my sis. Thats it. |

One Xmas when I was a little kid...my parents got this kit from some friends to make Santa foot prints in my kitchen. It was a brown mixture that came with it, so it looked like mud. They tracked the footprints into the kitchen, and put the plate of cookies and milk glass by the kitchen sink.
The funny thing is...instead of getting excited that Santa left a trail proving he was there...I got all worked up and said "Where did Santa walk in mud? I thought snow melted into water...and it would be clear, not brown and muddy!" Oh the little detective in me!! |

When I was still living in New York in '96, I was walking to the Queens Center Mall with a couple of friends on xmas eve. I saw something weird on the floor and it turned out to be a $100 dollar bill. I picked it up, and we split it, $40, $30, $30 ($40 for me cause I found it. :p )
That was pretty cool. |
