cd decks or vinyl decks??

i've been asking myself the same question..
i can get cd dex and get all the new stuff... but its no fun :(
thats why i wanna get turn tables.. but then i will hardly have stuff 2 play.. cause well there is no decent record shops here in israel.. and the prices are kinda expensive.. |

I have 2 TT's and 2 CD decks.... and let me just say, get the CD players! I have been spinning on TT's for 3 years, just got some CD decks 2-3 months ago, and LOVE them....
yeah TT's are fun, old-school, blah blah blah... but TT's are too easy.... CD players are more challenging, but the best part (and the reason why i like them so much), is you don't have to spend money on vinyl!!! woo-hoo!
I don't know about you guys, but i'm not made of money and can't afford to buy all the new vinyls when they come out (..and thats IF you can get/find them!!).... now i just burn songs i download off AG onto CD and spin them.... i'm spinning the same that Marco V just spun 2 weeks ago at Innericity wayyyy before its released on vinyl...
thats my opinion. If you have a lot of money, get both. Otherwise, just remember it will be a LOT cheaper to use CD decks... and more portable. (remember availibility with vinyls and cost of vinyls down the road as well)..... or go hybrid... get one of each.

Ive been spinning for about 5 years now and recently bought a cd deck...i dont know why everyone says its more challenging.......actually i found a lot easier then TTs
my personal opinion would be to get turntables
my suggestion to u is to go to ur local dj gear shop and try them both out at the store...and buy which ever you feel more comfortable with :) |

if you have the choice...then buy tt's:)
tt's bring the warmth in a mix,buttt thats just my opinion.
cdj-in is nice ofcuz and the sound is ok,but vinyl is tha real thing.
a cdj on a party.....nahhhh:P |

heres my opinion.....
best solution is to get 2 tables and a cd, or maybie 2 tables and 2 cd.. but thats not really possible for allot of us so heres my two cents....
If you are serious about wanting to dj then get the tables. if you want to screw around and have fun then get the cds. this is because cds are going to be ALLOT cheaper in the long run. the difference is you don't get such a great sound quality, and you are stuck to playing stuff you've heard elsewhere.
the thing about mixing with records.. in my opinion it's all about the record shop. I am blessed to live in NYC so I have decadance at my disposal. but anyway you walk into the shop at least once a week and you sort through either 50-300 releases depending on how exclusive the shop is. of those you'll probly find around 5 or so that you want. now say 2 or 3 may be big tunes that you would hear somewhere else on a mix and be able to pick up on cd. but 2 of them will probably be a cool tune by someone youv never heard that just caught your ear. i have allot of records that I have never been able to find online on mp3. so buying record exposes you to allot more music and you can make your pick out your own sound, rather than just using the sound of someone you heard elsewhere.
the down side to records, they are expensive and , and sometimes its just not possible to get your hands on the records you want. it's a real tradeoff... but if your serious about it i'd say go vinyll. and if your not near a record store, id say satelliterecords.com has the best online store. the only problem with them is the samples are short and they buy every release, so you have to sort through allot of . otherwise call up dennis at decadance NYC.. tell him the style of music you like and he'll play you some tunes and ship em out to you. he's there mon,tue,thur,fri. ricky's there sat,sun,wed. |

| well m8...it all depends on your budget & personal preference. id say get the TT's first, but thats just because i think they're the easiest medium to learn on, plus they sound better. im thinkin bout gettin some cd decks myself....not sure when or with what $$$...but i will someday :D:D:D |

| I have two Tech's and a CDJ-100. I initially just had the two TT's but like others have stated, sometimes you can't get vinyl you want (you can't find it, not available, sold out .. whatever) so your only option is download and burn. So I bought a CDJ-100 to fix that, I now have a bunch of CD's with tracks on them which I couldn't find or they're old and I wouldn't really buy the vinyl, but every once in a while it's nice to play them. I too find the CDJ easier to use than the TT's. People say vinyl is expensive, but so is any hobby you have. Vinyl IS part of the hobby it's not JUST about mixing songs together. I like getting new vinyl, I like going shopping for it, that's part of the fun of it all. I don't get that same feeling from burning a bunch of MP3's to CD. |

| well, if you are going to buy some CDJ decks then, make sure they play CDR's b/c if they dont, it would defeat the whole purpose of getting them(well, for me atleast)most CDJ decks that i have seen online wont specify if they read CDR's or not in their description. |

If you just want to have some informal parties for your friends or do it for yourself, if you're satisfied with being an MP3-J (because most trance stuff isn't available as CD singles + inferior quality of MP3) or a commercial CDJ, then go for the CD decks.
If, however, you want to be professional, if you want to evolve in your DJ'ing, and if you plan on spinning non-commercial, more underground stuff (which most of trance is) then go for TT's.
