im buying a DJ setup for 1200$. i know its legit, because i actually played around with the equipment, and its pretty nice. im getting the turntables, the speakers, needles, headphones, etc.
now, im not getting jipped, because i really dont know this guy, so i made a contract, which he agreed to me doing, and told me understood the reason.
so, plz read it, and tell me if i need to add anything. im also thinking about looking at a driver license or something, so make sure the name he puts down is the real name, and he wont just disappear with my . im just a very cautious person.

I _______________________, promise to pay the seller, ______________________ a.k.a. DJ Breaks, $120 as a down payment, and have another $60 payment for the seller by January 30, 2006. Thereafter, at least $60 is to be paid to the seller per month. The final amount to be paid is $1,200. In exchange, the buyer will get the DJ setup which has been offered including, speakers, mixer, headphones, vinyl player, etc. If the seller decides to halt the sale before $600 has been paid, the seller must refund ALL money that has been paid up to that time. After $600 has been paid to the seller, both parties have agreed that the seller will then give the offered equipment to the buyer, and the buyer will continue payments adding up to an additional $600, until a total of $1,200 has been paid. After the equipment has been given to the buyer, the sale CANNOT be stopped. If the contract is breached at any time by one party, the other party is authorized to take legal action.

Amended. Be wary of typos. I'm also not an American lawyer (much less a German one), but i tried to make things a little clearer and break them up into paragraphs more. Article headings for the paragraphs may also be appropriate.
I _______________________, promise to pay ______________________ $120 as a down payment on LIST ALL THE ITEMS HERE, BY MAKE AND MODEL. DO NOT USE GENERIC TERMS. The first payment will be due by January 30, 2006, and additional payments of sixty dollars will be due on the 30th of each month, until a total amount of Twelve Hundred dollars has been paid (including the original down payment).
Once {seller's name} has received 600 dollars (including the down payment), posession of the equipment will convert to {buyer's name}, contingent on monthly payments of 60 dollars, until the sale total of Twelve Hundred dollars has been reached.
At any time before {seller's name} has received 600 dollars, {seller's name} may stop the sale. If {seller's name} chooses to stop the sale, all payment (including down payment) will be refunded to {buyer's name}. Once 600 dollars worth of payments (including down payments), {seller's name} may NOT cancel the sale.
Any breach of this contract may result in legal action against the offender of this agreement.

Just pay them the guy by check if he decides to run away with your money you can always call the bank and tell them to cancel check number XYZ. |

That might work on a one-time payment, but it looks like he wants to pay month by month. If I were you, I'd get the equipment once you've paid the down payment though. Why pay half before you get the goods? allow him to cancel the sale till he receives half, but once you plunk down that 120 bucks, the should be yours. |

it just seems dumb to pay the guy for 8 months before you can own the equipment. If you were buying this on credit, this would never be the case. Why not just get a small loan and pay it back that way? By the way, if he signs a different name on the contract, I bet he can still be liable. A third party witness is never a bad idea |

I was just going to say, wouldn't be a bad idea to get your contract stamped by a Notary Public. |

You could use one of those services where he ships to the service provider, and you send the money to them, the company checks everything out and makes sure that everything is there, then send the money and equipment on its way. |
