So I've got a Dionyses party coming up on January 7th. Only drink allowed is wine and they're providing only boxed wine e. I need a decent white/blush wine for no more than 50 dollars a bottle.
Anybody have some suggestions? |

New Zealand Sauvignon Blancs are fantastic. The Marlborough region produces some of the world's best Sauvignon Blancs IMO.
Check out these names:
Montana
Babich
Oyster Bay
Cloudy Bay
Nobilo
Robinson's |

| Just been wine-hunting in spain, had some really good choices there, including some imports I can't find at home from good names like Torres. Also got some nice south african & south australians when I got back home for my brother/his gf who drink it like it's going out of fashion. |

:D :D :D
Clare Valley and McLaren Vale FTW!
But I doubt you'd be able to find those easily in a normal bottle shop in the US. Don't even know what ones you have over there, I'd say they would be completely different to what we have here (sorta like Fosters with beer) |

i think you'll be fine on a $50 budget. Most wine you can find in the local grocer is usually between $4-29 dollars, it all depends on the vintage.
Like A.J. said, New Zealand is most famous for its Sauvignon Blanc varietal. California's Napa and Sonoma valleys offer incredible Chardonnays for excellent prices. Virginia's Chateau Morissette's Our Dog Blue is one of the best white wines you'll find on the East Coast.
is there a Wine Cellar near you? Usually you can go and ask questions and the cellars stocks hard-to-get import wines. Also there might be tast-testings (i know the cellar at school had wine tastings every saturday morning). If you go and taste and see what you like.
Remember everybodys tastes are different as well. While some people will absolutely love Franzia box wine, others will simply not touch it. |

Box wine isnt always bad. Kendall Jackson is currently putting their wine in abox, and while it does lose a bit of flavor, it's alot more convinient from the fridge. Speaking of the fridge, never refridgerate red wines.
Clos Du Bois makes a solid chardonay, though I prefer their Cabernet. Mirraosu makes a very solid Pinot Noir. Columbia Crest has a decent commercial wine as well. As someone else said, I obviously prefer red wines. Don't turn yourself off to red wines because of a bad experience. Also, make sure you're drinking a wine appropriate for an ocassion. Break out the merlot for formal ocassions, but a good Pinot Noir is a bit more casual and usually easier for non-wine drinkers to get into. Cabernet Sauvignon's are a good wine for meals, as they can pair with almost any type of meat or pasta. I don't know much abot Blushes.
50 bucks is alot for a bottle of wine thats not imported. Even a strong imported wine shouldn't be that expensive. You should be able to drop 20 bucks and get a very good bottle of wine. The quality will improve as you pay more, but i my opinion, the rise in price and the rise in quality are not in proper ratio. |

yeah.. i mean, i guess i could try a red. the only reds i've really ever had were nasty ass port and some cheap merlot.. so. i'm open for something other than those two.
i'm really new to wine.. much more of a mixed drink/beer drinker. |
