Review: X-Tend - NYE @ SONIC

I cant believe how many people last night were saying 'ohhh its so good to be back to Boa'. LOL. I'm just gonna start callin it Sonic to cause less confusion :P

Nevio opened things up wonderfully...... place had a great welcoming vibe, the decor was stellar, and the sound - floorwhore approved. That was the best mainroom set i think Nev has ever dropped - very well done.

Lafleche came on at 6.... and at that point, the club was completely rammed with people just going ape . He was VERY all over the place with his track selection, but it almost worked to his advantage. Just when he would lose everybody, he would come out of no where with the drummiest, dark tracks that just sent people into a frenzy.

I ventured down in the lounge several times, and Jeremy, Nittin and Mischief n Frankie held it down all night, right into the morning. Lots of good energy in that room all night long.

We left around 10am, and im going on three hours of sketchy sleep (im just going to call it 'Skeep'.

Off to the 613 in forty five, and hittin Sonic around eight pm.

See you boys and girls shortly......

Official Floorwhore Review:

Round 1: We gathered the crew together, and went down to the club shortly after opening. To our surprise, a massive line was already beginning to develop. First impression of the main room – SICK. Nevio was on the decks, warming things up as the crowd began to grow by the minute. He started things off nicely, playing a tribal/disco house blend of tunes, and proceeded to play a little bit more circuit house as his set went on (playing to the crowd obviously). We ventured down to the lounge a couple of times, and caught a bit of Mr. Jive, as well as Nitin for a sold hour. Both held it down nicely, and had the room jamming strong, well into the morning.

We went back up to the main room at 6am to catch Montreal’s very own, Lafleche. I was quite looking forward to hearing his set, but I must admit – was a little let down by his performance. The technical difficulties during his set were too frequent, and hard to overlook. I don’t think I have ever heard so many cd’s skip in a four hour span. I think these mishaps really threw off the flow of his set completely. Now there were quite a few bright spots from him as well. He would go on these massive furies of tunage, that would set the place completely off…. buildups I had never heard so massive, and drummy madness my ears had never experienced before. But unfortunately, these moments didn’t happen enough times to get the bad taste out of my mouth. We had enough, and left shortly after 10am.

Round 2: Yikes. After getting a little bit sloppier than originally anticipated on NYE, the gas tank wasn’t quite to capacity – and I was banking on there being a musical heaven awaiting me when I arrived for round two. Luckily for me, there was. It was shortly after 8pm when our crew arrived for the second time during this weekend of madness. As we entered, you could smell the party in the air. It was dirty, it was hot, and the humidex reading was off the charts – it was perfect. Mike Curcio was behind the decks, and I had to glance up to the booth to make sure it wasn’t Miller up there! Wow. This guy really did a great job with his slot, twisting styles of progressive house and tribal, and chugging along for two hours straight – almost flawlessly. He kept the tempo nice and steady, making it very easy for everyone to get back into the groove after an afternoon of ‘skeep’. Shortly after 10pm, Sean hits the decks – and the club goes ape . With still plenty of room on the dance floor, I decided to take advantage of the space – and just abuse the floor like a hadn’t in a long time. Five hours later, and again, Sean puts together what seems to be happening WAY too often – a perfect set. The Lawler influence was pretty evident in his sound, and he definitely has taken it to the next level. Although I think he is still the best ‘warmup’ guy in the biz, he is now a headliner dj no doubt. 3am, I’m just a mess. Chus & Ceballos come on, and I think I was in the lounge. Someone came to get me (not too sure who), so I stumble up the stairs and pretend to know where I am. I proceeded to “dance”, for about an hour – but it was just getting ridiculous. I think I lost ten pounds just sweating, and my girlfriend decided we should head home and shower.

Round 3: It’s now about five in the morning. I’m fresh as a daisy. And actually can think at this point. C & C were rocking it out, and the club was hotter, and sweatier than ever. I made my was through the wall of steroid enhanced bulk and utterly disgusting body odor, to the back of the club – and I think I mentioned to RJ that I had showered, about seventeen times. He was pissed. I think. Head back to the dance floor, and see Del right in the thick of things, bustin it out – so I join. A danceoff then ensues behind us, and this ‘b-boy’ king starts to clear the dancefloor so he can ‘do his thing’. For a second, I thought I was smack dab in the middle of a scene from WildStyle. So retarded. So I had to smack some sense into him, and whored him to the ground. He tried to actually trip me several times while I showed him up, but I dodged his attempts. Now I’m more soaked than I was before I left to shower. And I have B.O., but not from my body – but from the boys I had to slide by to get from point b, to point o. Spent quite a bit of time in the back of the club with the usual suspects, and did the head bob and fist pump until it finally was time to leave. 9:15, totally spent, satisfied, and in need of two months of recovery.

Thanks Carey for all of your extreme efforts in putting this thing together. All the hard work paid off, and it looks like we’ve got some serious momentum leading up to the grand opening!
