That's like saying your expendable, I'd rather be killed than kill someone else. Or saying "oh excuse me, that was mi.... but oh, oh well, yeah uh, it's okay, um you can have it I guess.." or you'd rather be laughed at than do the laughing. You wouldn't win at life, let alone the dog eat dog world, possibly not even the microscopic fungi survival of the fittest. But! Your a good person. And that leaves you... where? Your perspective on my remark does not capture my intent.
The issue isn't one of saying "I will not stand up for myself" or "I will not try to stem the tide of evil". I am at the heart of the fight against evil, but that doesn't change the fact that...
Evil occurs. And it there is horror in being someone who commits evil, not just in being a victim.
There is the old school debate about Gays. Is it a choice? And gay people respond "who would choose it given all the negative things that are associated with it?"

Just as your stating it's horrifying for you to commit evil acts upon others, I'm sure it horrifies some even more to be the brunt of those evil acts.
Edit* How many times have you heard or seen this: A boy just finds out via friends that his girlfriend is getting ready to dump him. What does he do? He has to dump her first. Your the girlfriend who was dumped and are at a club, while the ex who dumped you is eyeing and clearly isn't over you. What do you do? You make out with the boy next you.
It's about diverting the pain that we received onto someone else. Why? Tension and release. For fear of being hurt, or falling victim. Protection. It's sad, yes? |

I'm completely lost about how the dance floor scenario relates. The scenario you describe isn't about diverting anything. Its about creating generic drama. People like relationships to come in with a bang, and go out with a bang. So they both end up at the club to go out with a little dramatic bang.
The girlfriend wins in this scenario because she gets to make out with a stranger without any social guilt cause she can just say "oh well I don't just makeout with strangers, I was just doing it to piss off my ex".

I'll try and make my point explicit. There are 2 people involved in an act of evil. The Evil person, and the Victim. If you were one of those 2 people, and you had a choice of being either the evil person or the victim then who would you choose? Its not a question of diversion or tension or protection. Its not a quesiton of condone evil. Its a question of which ROLE would you prefer to find yourself in. |
