The grand opening of the club was last weekend for New Years. Belo is going to bring in 06 with a bang, I guarantee it.
If you read the January flyers we have Mike Hiratzka, Boris MD and some of SD's best local dj's bringing in the new year.
I will be headlining on February 11th so please come out and support if you are in the area.
The club, the vibe and most importantly the music cannot be touched anywhere else, I promise! |

It means come in your weekends finest :)
The dress code I would think is very similar to On Broadway. I can promise you Michelle that some of your favorite dj's will be coming through this club on some Saturdays!!!
What are your plans for February 11th? It is my first major headlining gig if you are interested in coming down this way to hang :). It would be much appreciated!! |

Forced dress code? Already gets a thumbs down from me as those types of dress codes tend to bring out the rude drunk snobby crowd.
So glad Ruby Skye here in SF has laxed on the dress code. Ever since they have, it has surely brought in more of a good mixed crowd. Still have the rudeness in the place, but just not nearly as bad.
A the crowd/vibe is just as important to me as the DJ. Hard to really enjoy a DJ to the fullest when you have people around you being all snobby and rude. |

Did I mention this place has turbosound in the main room :eyes:
Dave,
I understand what you mean about a dress code sometimes bringing in a crowd that might be a little more pretencious but such is life.
I prefer a nice dress shirt and jeans over normal clothes but that is just me. THis club is going to have a lot of great things and hopefully you can stop on through when you are in the area next. I can guarantee the headliners are going to be top notch!! |

Don't get me wrong, I don't have with people generally wearing a nice button up shirt and pants...you'll actually catch me wearing a button up shirt every once in awhile. Although, I don't think any fit me right now as I've let myself get out of shape over the last year, lol. But I have plans and a strong desire to get in better shape so I'll be back into them soon enough, hehe....
The problem, though, is the people-type that clubs that force a dress code on you bring in. The rude, drunk, snobby crowd tend to go to those clubs because those clubs are "trendy" and "the place to be" and where guys think hotter chicks will be. They are there to be hip and not necessarily there specifically for the music. And their attitude shows it, especially when they are on the dance floor and don't give a rats ass that you are trying to truly enjoy the music experience the DJ is bringing you.
I can't stand that. ARGH.
Ruby Skye here in SF used to have a strict dress code. And DJ-centric club goers HATED that place because of it. Over the past year or two they have definitely gotten lax on the dress code and it's gone from a club DJ-centric club goers have hated to the venue of choice. What's impressive about this is that you don't see the crazy lasers, lightings (and occasional Kryo) that you get as Ten15 and you don't get the dark, underground feeling you get at Mezzanine here....but it's a venue where the crowd is now tolerable, it never does get overly hot, the staff there is awesome, has a great sound system, and can bring a real good vibe and the vibe there is more of a feeling you get from the DJ and the crowd rather than feeding off of the lighting/lasers you see in other clubs. Ten15 has been doing a lot of remodelling to the club and I love the front room, but the main room is always scorching hot now, even when it's not packed, and it just feels stale at this point. Mezzanine is a place I love because it just has a great general vibe. It had the best sound system at one point in the city but for some reason it's gone to the crapper. The perminant stage they put in the place is terrible and the other DJ booth they setup on some nights vibrates like hell. The staff there is generally good and so are the drinks. Outside area allows for lots of mingling. Can get stupid hot, though.
Personally, I really wish a new megaclub would be built in San Francisco...and in downtown much like Ruby Skye is. And I mean one in the spirit of a style you see in Ibiza or other nice clubs in Europe. Not just a bunch of rooms with some lighting, sound, and a DJ booth. I want effect screens everywhere (flat screens), full color lasers, crazy lighting, etc along with elegant decor. Multiple levels throughout one room to give the room some scope.
I think the problem with clubs maintaining a proper experience on a consistant basis in the US is the general decor of the place and mood settings. Clubs are generally just either real dark and pretty bright. If they are real dark, they look nasty and dingy when lit up. When they are pretty bright (think Ruby Skye on most occasions), the decor is very nice as it has to be but it hurts the experience for some nights (like high flying trance nights) -- not saying the experience is bad because of it, but it could be better if the place is dark with effects going off everywhere. And well, each end of the ambient lighting spectrum only seems to work for certain styles and when a style that doesn't fit with the ambient lighting comes into that club, it detracts from how well the overall experience could be.
Other important areas to look at with a design is that no matter the size of the crowd, things can be adjusted around to make the place seem hoppin and ready for a good time. So if it's a smaller crowd, can make things more intimate. If it's a large crowd, make it feel like crazy mayhem. With lighting, I wish the design was done so that the place's ambient lighting could be adjusted depending on the night, and have the ambient colors be adjustable to make things seem fresh from weekend to weekend. So if there are nights when a club just needs to be super dark and use the lasers, lighting, smoke machines (or Kryo) for the crazy effects..like a night with Armin or PvD or even James Zabiela. On other nights, like say on nights there's more house (not most prog, but house), raise up the ambient lighting to give the place a more laid back, dance lounge feel and use some lightings, no lasers, etc etc. I wouldn't enforce a dress code, but the design and influence of the club would suggest wearing nice apparel. I wish I had like $10 million to build a club. Seriously. OK, maybe $15 million when it comes to SF costs.
Would also make the venue be setup to be able to host bands and non DJ-centric events for special events, weekday parties, private events, etc etc to help cover the cost of the club. |

Disagree.
The problem in San Diego is people come here and think they can go to a club in a pair of Birdwells or shorts and flip-flops. That works in PB but not downtown. A lot of tourists show up in clothing I wouldn't even paint in. I’ve seen it tons of times. I am glad they have some semblance of a dress code.
I’m sure if you show up in my standard uniform (Calvin T-shirt, nice jeans and trainers) you can get in about anywhere in San Diego.
I never understood the dressing like crap mentality.
BTW Austin that is great news about Belo. I started a thread about this club a couple of months ago. E Street use to be the best club in San Diego. It drips with possible vibe. Love the underground feeling.
Congratulations. Can't wait to check it out. Is it still afterhours? Also who is promoting? |

I dunno, I went to On Broadway in a polo, jeans, and diesel shoes and they turned me away. Oh then when I finally convinced them to let me in they took my fake ID....bastards! |
