I'm a relative n00b to the EDM scene and so far, it absolutely kicks ass and love the events I've been to!
Still learning all the different types of EDM and constantly read people on TA talk about prog, psytrance, techno, etc etc.
So what are the different types of EDM and how would you describe them.
List tracks/sets/DJs that epitomize particular types. |

This guy can be a bit biased with his comments but it's not a bad site to sample different kinds of edm.

Oh, and according to him the different overall categories of edm are:
House
Trance
Techno
Breakbeat
Jungle
Hardcore
Downtempo
Of course there a lot of sub-genres, and then it's just a matter of if you want to actually classify it as a completely different genre. I'm not really sure what the deal is with prog though, some people still seem to claim it's not it's own genre |

DDTT
(acronym for) Dark Dirty Tech Tribal.
Broad, encompassing label for stylized genres and sub-genres of electronic music (electronica) with dark, dirty, tech or tribal elements. Relates especially to house music.

even tho theres alot of satire on that (less in v 2.0 now), v 1.0 actually helped me grasp the variety and helped ALOT |

i never really understood the whole " Trance Is Dead " thing. i mean if Trance is dead now then when was it alive and how did it sound ? And Ferry Corsten killed it then why is it that Ferry is a popular producer / dj and people who make those kinda comments are nothing but jackasses who havent spent a day in the studio or for most of them an hour behind the decks.
For me there is just
House
Trance
Techno
Rest is all mumbo jumbo that one way or another is a sub genre of above 3. |
