dont hate on tarantino... he was the executive producer for the film and helped eli roth (director) touch it up a bit in post-production. and the reason for the "presents" thing is to gain more publicity. over the last 10 years he's gained a lot of faim for making great, boundary-pushing movies that are loved my the masses and by stamping his name on there, it helps draw more people to the film.
btw as exec producer, you literally have power over the director, so even though he didnt write it nor did he direct it, he did play a good role in its making. |
In all honesty, he only supports smaller, independent pictures that are less likely to get sponsorship from, say, a big studio. I work at a video store, and there are tons of straight to DVD Hong Kong cop movies that are all "Presented by Quentin Tarantino".
Basically all he does is assist the director in post-production and help pay for the distribution of either smaller budget films or foreign films (like Hero). |

spoil spoil another thread, eh, lets go
Hostel is proclaimed as america's "savior" for the horror cinema. With recent horror films surrounding aliens, supernatural beings or experiments-gone-wrong trying to scare the audience, the film tries to make the audience afraid of other human beings. How would you know that any person you saw on the street might have flown a private plane to Thailand and shoot someone in the head for $10,000 (which is what Hostel is based on)
The Dumb and Dumberer guy was really awesome. His fear and crying was an awesome performance. Considering he was much more kind and reserved, his torture and eventual death could create an animosity with the audience.
I didn't really find the gore that was heavily promoted that violent. Hostel recieved an R rated on it's first pass through the MPAA, unlike Saving Private Ryan getting an NC-17 in it's first go around. Decapitations, blowtorching the face, chainsaw action, and plenty of throat cutting. The only thing I fely woozy about was when one of the characters had a ballgag and starting vomiting with it.
As mentioned in the last thread, there seems to be a theme portraying Americans as machomen who don't rely on rules outside of America. Almost like they feel the world surrounds them. As one of the characters realizes that this whole torture process is a business, he finds out Americans are top dollar.
Pre-screeners and attendees of the Toronto Film Festival said the ending was great. I found it a bit ridiculous. The main character finds a way to escape and starts a car chase. Along the way he happens to see people which lured him into the torture bay and hits them with the car. One of them got on all fours before being run over (as in going under the car) by the chasing vehicles. The chasers run into a blocked street with ten year old gang members (yes, 10 year olds) who the car up and start bashing skulls in with their baseball bats. Main character gets on a train and gets free. He then discovers another person that masterminded his torture experience, blocks him off in the restroom and s him up.
The premise behind it is absolutely horrific and a good grounds for a horror film. My favorite part is when the main character and one of the torturers talk about killing people "it's a rush!" "should i use the gun to kill them fast or should i make it nice and slow"
aaaaaaaaand there you have it

You fail. Your aim should be to describe the nudity scenes more in depth. Who cares about the violence in the film. 45 minutes of sex and all we get from you is a sentence about it? Come on! |

| they walk into a room with girls getting dressed. They think it's the wrong room, but it seems that females/male share the room. The girls ask them to join them in the spa. Some full frontal, ass and of course wet breasts. They go into rooms to get sex for $. One of them sends a pic of himself ing a girl to a friend's cell phone. They take ecstasy and have sex back in their room. |
