So I'm graduating from RPI in upstate this May, and I just accepted a position at UBS Investment Bank. I'm really excited to be moving down to the city for alot of reasons. The position is in their Graduate IT Program which will be awesome for me.
It starts in July so I have to find an apartment by then so any suggestions or help you guys have is gladly welcome. The positon is in midtown at 6th and 51st.
Obviously it means I'll be around alot more instead of commuting from Boston / Upstate NY to the big events.
I have met alot of you before but now I feel like Ill be able to got to know the rest of you. I'm just really excited and just felt like sharing with you guys.:)
I cant wait for this summer.

yea Finance IT is no joke! be prepared to be on call as well (you might work something out with UBS in terms of paying for rent! - read the fine print before you sign your life away!)
as for apartments? first and foremost I say hit the craigslist but be prepared to drop large lum sums of money! (usually broker fees are 1mo rent) so be prepared to hunt and keep hunting.
I don't have anything available in either of the 3 buildings i work with. There is a new building opening up which is strictly condo's for purchase only (something most of us can not afford), but if you are in serious consideration I say hit the cl's first, if you have trouble contact me and I can put you through to some people. If you are willing to travel from queens, I have a good friend who just bought a house and is looking to rent out the basement. I've seen the space and he can arrange a parking spot in the garage as well.
Let me know, the queens spot is affordable although a trek to the city from forest hills. |

Congratulations Madhattered! You'll find the city a way better place to live in. Sure it's more expensive, but with your job you can afford to pay the high rent that the city has to offer. It's also quite the multicultural experience. There are tons of people of every race around there. Trust me you'll make a bunch of friends.
On a side note could anyone tell me what craiglist is? |
