I cant even begin to imagine the pain caused by a wipeout on one of those monster waves:wtf:

Im sure theres some sort of equation they use to measure the height of the wave, like distance between the wave and camera (which would be an estimate too, the zoom on the camera, apprx height of the surfer, blah blah blah

Fact of the matter is, its amazing.

i cant tell if thats water or snow. if thats an actual wave, thats insane.

zizack: is that movie riding giants the one where it opens up with a close up shot of a surfer on a wave, and then it gradually zooms out to reveal this ginormous wave?

yeah, thats an acual wave...nicknamed "The Warped Monster"

The swells at that break build gradually and then it slam into the one of the shallowest reefs around and the water warps the wave like that. The water beneath that surfer is like 3 feet deep.

the movie you're talking about is "the Billabong Oddesey." Its pretty good. Riding Giants is much better though.

Haha, considering the fact that I still love Bruce Brown's 'The Endless Summer,' I'm sure Riding Giants will be a definite treat. :)

yeah, thats a classic. His son, Dana, actually made an amazing surf film a couple years ago called "Step Into Liquid." There's a segment in the movie about Robert August (the star of Endless Summer) and his surfing trips to Costa Rica. The surf shots are amazing.
