saw it the other day and I warmly recommend it. go see! just beautiful, esthetically. gripping story, great acting and japanese architecture in the same movie. yes, too good to be true. has anyone read the book btw?

i thought the movie was good. i really liked the things you mentioned...the imagery and everything is really great. the only thing i disliked is well..the reality of the movie is sort of depressing. i mean the men are these old politicians and these young girls...just kinda sad

quick synopsis:
a girl gets sold as child to a geisha house. basically

I didn't have any expectations when I saw it, which made it even better :)

Everything you guys mentioned was true. I just thought at parts it was a little slow.

I like how they got a chinese woman to play a geisha. I'm sure it was much easier than finding a japanese one.

For godsakes just speak only japanese or english, dont go doing that ing wapanese bull . Also, at the end with the Americans, did she like know english all of the sudden, or did that guy know japanese?!

:wtf:

Other than that I liked it, it was really beautiful, especially the dance scene with the snowing stuff... i was in awe!

I think it helps in generating the atmosphere of the film. Where important dialogue is carried out in English for the use of the audience and using minor traces of the "real" language for basic everyday conversation, it seems to me a little more authentic than either sticking it with subtitles or totally Americanizing it.

That being said, I thought the film was amazing. It made me really miss Japan...

Great movie.. I kinda agree with the language thing though. It just felt alittle unnatural for them to speak english. I mean, they can speak english fine, but it didn't flow 100%. All Japanese with subtitles would have made it perfect, but of course since they used Chinese and Japanese actors, it would be alittle hard.
