Newbie to the Sounds of Sasha (pg. 3)

I have to agree with you guys a little about Sasha and the use of Abelton. When I listened to his set at Maida Vale studios, I didn’t really like the track selection but the way he mixed was crazy. I couldn’t even pick up the transition from Laneline into Lovefood. Also if you use your ears, you can hear him spun a few tracks for a couple of seconds and then pull them out. From kiss Ya lips into Hella Good, if you listen closely you could pick up Landline in the background for a few seconds. Also from Lovefood into Easy Lee, you can pick up a few seconds of Breathe Me, and then he fades it out. He also used a unique drum beat mixed in with a lot of the tracks.
This not really about the track selection, well their tunes I like but the way he uses Abelton to mix is really intersecting to listen to. Sometime I think Abelton can make anyone be a DJ, but I guess it’s how you use it to its max. potential. |

Its not what you use, its how you use it. That goes for any DJ using any medium.
Except maybe Ipod DJ's :p |

I agree to an extent with you... his older livesets felt and sounded much more emotional. but.. ableton or not, his sets still sound great.
+1 to Fundacion and Involver, those are two great albums that any sasha fan should own. and GU13 was good, but I really liked #009.. It really captured the sound of his livesets from 98-99.. great stuff.

people seem to praise him just because he uses Ableton but don't seem to take too big notice of the tunes.
It's like buying a car loaded with nice technology and stuff but the car handling is really poor. |

This whole "electro house" thing just spun way out of control. It had some nice ideas I guess, but now it's been reduced to dear old Sasha only playing stuff by the same 10 or so artists (and if not that, they're on the same labels). Now how interesting is that? I realise that even good techno DJs do this, but the integrity of those artists is on another level, and the crowd they're playing for is much different.
Anyway, this whole genre needs more variation. More knarz, more distortion, more quirky breaks to make it less predictable.
And less Swedish House Mafia. |

What Swedish House Mafia tracks, besides Pryda - Aftermath and Sebastian Ingrosso - Get It Back, does Sasha play? I can't think of one other.
I'd definitely disagree with him only playing stuff by the same 10 artists, too. I didn't know one artist on the new mix he did for Annie Nightingale's on Friday. I agree that he was overplaying Coburn vs. Dumb Blone - Sugar Lips, Ewan Pearson vs. M.A.N.D.Y. - No Stoppin' Love, Trentemoller - Beta Boy, and Jack Addicts, Mills & Joy - Sick Strings, but every DJ's got to have a few favorite newer tracks.
He's here in NYC next Friday, so hopefully he delivers. |

You got any proof to back that up? I've seen him play a total of 2 swedish house mafia tunes lately. |

umm i think you have sasha confused with Tiesto there. and im gonna assume youre just going by Fundacion because he had alot of the same artists on there (Ewan Pearson, Holden, etc) and hes been playing out alot of those artists (teifschwarz, playgroup, M.A.N.D.Y) since.
Well its part of his sound.just like he used to play out alot of BT from 95 and on. and I dont recall any of the artsits Ive just mentioned being on Sasha's label.. |

Wow... lots of debate over Sasha lately...
Personally, there's been a lot I've loved, and not very much I've hated. His set at Soundbar this last June was not my cup of tea, but Sasha Live @ Aria Montreal 6-11-05 and Sasha Live @ Pure Festival Lithuania are two of my favorite sets of the year. I think that it's just with how different Sasha can be night to night, month to month, year to year that throws people off, but for the most part he's been a DJ who's been consistently quality IMO for years...
