do a lot of universities/colleges have their own radio stations? how do u get on? |
I had my own show for over a year here in Point, though the majority of listeners were TA's via intarweb and not locals... It's pretty easy at the smaller schools, don't know about big uni's though... |

yea alot of colleges have radio stations. Im a student here at GWU, and i was recruited last summer to take over the electronic dept. with my co-dj Dj Asher (no more plugs here!). Usually you have to be a student i think.
www.gwradio.com Saturday Nights starting on the 29th. |

It's ok man, what it sounds like to me is that you're at that oh-so-fun point in life where you begin to realize that in order to get to where you want to be, you may have to do some things you just don't really enjoy all that much (i.e. aspects of school/work). I can understand completely man, I was there, and it took me literally years to figure out what it was I actually wanted to do, and what I was willing to work for at things that genuinely weren't all that fun for me.
Don't worry too much bro, just honestly, focus as much as you can on school, and understand that sometimes you just have to do what it takes to get to where you want to go. Upon typing that I realized just how cliche' it sounds, but it's the honest to God truth man. Production and school both take a lot of time and effort, and you may have to sacrifice some of one to save the other. As I said earlier, production opportunities will be around forever, but you're only young once, and it's a LOT easier to deal with school now than it will be to try and work things out years down the line. Get an education man, and if production is really that big of a priority to you, you'll find a way to make it work. I don't even know you, but I've got faith ;), just based on what you've written you're clearly at least concerned with the right things, you'll find your focus eventually.
I wish you the best of luck m8... Work hard, and you'll be just fine... :) |
Thanks, I think you said exactly how im feeling. But even if i do sit down and study or what ever for school I just dont know If ill be able to do good in school. I feel like my brain was made for technology lol thats how I think of it as. |

+1
The good thing about MSU is that they probably have a webcast, which most small schools dont. Thats what Im fighting for right now at my station. You wouldnt BELIEVE the red tape we have to go through...
To the creator of this thread... Take a break from music for a bit and focus on school. If it really is such a passion for you then youll always be able to pick up where you left off. Your education is whats important at this point. |

Oddly enough, that's exactly how I felt a few years back, restless and unsure, but honestly, you'll grow out of it. It's different for everyone, and you'll go through your own trials and tribulations to deal with it, many of which won't exactly be a ton of fun, but you'll deal with the good and bad, learn from your mistakes and experience, and sooner or later you'll find your own way to make it in the world on your own terms.
A lot of it is just a matter of time and experience, and as time goes on and you gain more experience (like a videogame! ) it'll become easier and easier to figure out what you need to do to be happy and successful.
Sorry this all sounds so abstract, but I guess I believe that while everyone goes through this phase, we all deal with it differently. All I'm trying to say is make sure your priorities are straight and work hard, and you'll be able to figure out what it is that's going to make you happy. |

do what i did. i realized, im just not that "studious" of a person. but i am smart as hell. i have a pretty above average intelligence, but its hard for me to sit down, open up a book and do problems 1-100, read pages 13-50, etc. but i know my strengths, and i know what i want to do. just get the passing grades. im not exactly honor roll, but im not horrible either. my comfort zone is no D's. if i get no D's, im happy. with that in mind, my moms off my back now, because my grades are stable, lol, but most are C's, and a couple B's. im a C student, yea, but i know that i like business, and im excellent in math, so i put my focus in that.
just graduate high school with "ok" grades, i mean, your not going to harvard, and there are a million schools that would take u. go into production, and just do what u like to do. right now though, as rjt said, graduate on a good level, u dont have to be valevictorian, but dont be lazy either. ;) |

| Remember most people who produce trance do it for the love of the music...duh. This is evident in the fact that they continue to produce despite little to no pay at all. Unless you have this much of a passion for the music then I say go for it only after you finish college and graduate. Let's face it becoming a trance artist is just as unstable as becoming an actor, a basketball player, or an NFL pro football player. They're very precarious job prospects that don't provide a good standard of living unless you get some type of lucky break. But if you do make it in the big time, you can use your college education to fall back on just in case you go deaf (trance artist), catch cancer (actor), or blow a knee out (football player). BT is a good example of a college graduate. All in all, much luck to you DJ Hye. |
