WTF happened to Real Sociedad and Real Betis? They just imploded or something? |
The thing that happened a couple of seasons ago was that Real Sociedad and Real Betis played very well and had two pretty good squads. Real Sociedad played fantastic from time to time in La Liga, reached the second place and qualified for the UEFA Champions League. This all happened with a brand new manager in the squad.
But the success stopped and Real Sociedad has been lost ever since the season after started. They didn't do anything special in Champions League, easily knocked out.
Players like De Pedro, Karpin, Nihat, Kovacevic stopped producing goals and this simply got the team in big trouble. But they sustained in the La Liga and wasn't relegated, unfortunately they're pretty lost after Karpins and De Pedros decisions to end their careers. I still think they've got some potential, but to get back to the great position where they were a couple of years ago though.
Real Betis also made the same misstake, they had a too thin squad who couldn't compete with the bigger teams about the important places for Europe. Luckily, they played well longer than a single season, they also reached the Uefa Champions League and won over Chelsea, but after that, they haven't had much luck. Still, they've played quite well for a couple games now, and they should maintain in the Spanish La Liga next year to. |

what happened ? I left the real vs real game at 80 mins :( i thought zaragoza would win!
I'm happy to see Mallorca & Bilbao doing ok, esp Athletic, they're a proud club & to see them relegated would be a disaster |

I didn't watch the game either. I was hoping zoric would know since he has those 2,000,000 channels and he's a fan.
I just heard the news. Haven't seen any footage.
Here's an article:
| quote: | MADRID, Spain (AP) - Antonio Puerta's 76th-minute goal gave Sevilla a 1-0 victory over Atletico Madrid and sparked a shower of debris onto the field that forced the referee to suspend the game for nearly half an hour.
Irritated at referee Miguel Angel Ayza Gamez's decision to allow the goal, supporters at Atletico's Vicente Calderon stadium hurled projectiles, one of which hit the Sevilla goalkeeper Andres Palop.
Sevilla president Jose Maria Del Nido told Radio Marca that Palop was struck by a cigarette lighter close to his ear, which caused bruising, and another object which had hit his right leg.
"It was sad. This type of incident gives soccer a poor image. But sometimes it happens," Del Nido said. "The referee never said the match had been abandoned and told the players to be ready to return."
The referee had ejected Atletico midfielder Peter Luccin four minutes earlier and also had awarded Sevilla two penalties in the first 31 minutes of the game, both of which were saved by goalkeeper Leo Franco.
When the referee led the players off the field amid chaotic scenes, it appeared the match had been abandoned. Some spectators began leaving the stadium and Telemadrid halted its television coverage of the match.
Following the resumption of the game, Atletico forward Martin Petrov and defender Luis Perea also were ejected, leaving Atletico to complete the game with just eight players.

I wasn't wathcing the game yesterday, wasn't at home when it was played.
I've read some articles and peoples personal comments on this one to get a little perspective, but it's still very hard to get a full perspective on it because I didn't watch it, and now I regret it.
This game was very important for both Atlético and Sevilla, and I thought we could win over Sevilla if we played well. Still, a draw would've been great because we didn't have Kezman for this game (Red carded the match before, and his second foul sure wasn't worth a second yellow).
It feels pretty weird actually, and I was very dissapointed when I came home at 3 am from a football tournament to see 9 yellow cards, 3 red cards, 2 penalty kicks against us and everyone's blaming us for hitting Palop with stuff. It's sure is a scandal, and it makes me feel ty when I think about the next La Liga game without 3 of our best players in the squad suspended.
How nasty did they play to get 3 red cards? 3 red cards in the same game is a scandal of it's own. |

Atlético Madrid player pretty bad tonight and lost another 2 points when they only got one point against Cadiz.
Garcia Calvo and Gonzalo Colsa was replacing Perea and Luccin, and they weren't really good enough. Calvo played to harsh and stupid from time to time, which means he gave away easy freekicks. Colsa also played pretty harsh, but that's his style and I'm a bit dissapointed with his performance even though he isn't even near to the capacity of Peter Luccin.
Cadiz was awarded with a penalty after Galletti's stupid foul on Jonatan Sesma. But it should've been offside, because Sesma ran into offside, the referee didn't do a and gave a penalty.
Mateja Kezman scored his 7th goal of the season when Ariel Ibagaza passed to him in the middle of the plan, between two players. Nice pass and Kezman rounded the goalkeeper and scored 0-1 for Atlético de Madrid.
Now, I'm very dissapointed with Fernando Torres way of playing tonight. He didn't show very much and had a chance where he ran away from a defender after the ball was accidently given to him in a duell between Kezman and a Cadiz-defender, He shot right at the goalkeeper and didn't do a tonight.
Petrov played quite well and got tired after a while, nothing more to add on this than I'm a bit dissapointed. |

Two great games coming up tonight:
First out Atlético de Madrid vs. Celta de Vigo and then the always explosive and full of hatred derby between Real Betis and Sevilla CF.
Should be very interesting tonight and I hope we won't get a delayed game in the Sevilla-derby just like we got last year or if it was 2 years ago, wow, That was so lame :haha: |
