Richie is giant in ibiza and all over europe too.

Friends of mine were backpacking and met guys from ireland who worshipped richie hawtin and knew nothing about tiesto, literally!

You didn't just compare hawtin to picotto or benassi did you?
It's a GLOBAL event...doesn't need to be an italian DJ.

there is a serious lack of "richie knowledge" in this thread... for shame!

hah picotto couldn't tie richie's shoes

I can imagine 99.99% of the crowd going WTF is this ?

Heck, it's hard to get EDM lovers to like minimal techno let alone an average joe.

u'd be surpised at how versatile Richie Hawtin is ..

i'm pretty sure he'll be playing a set that is appropriate with whatever visuals they plan on displaying

take a look at previous Olympics ceremonies and i won't be suprised if most of the music is very 'atmospherical' in nature. some of his work i witness overseas this summer was mindblowing.

Leading on from the idea and success of the Pansonic experience at Sónar 2004, Pedro Alcalde and Sergio Caballero recompose a Plastikman piece to be played by the Band and Hawtin himself. A challenge and an experience.

Both his approach to the art of deejaying as well as the contents of his sets make Dj/Rupture impossible to pigeonhole. This undoubtedly makes him the ideal candidate to take part in an experiment that redefines classical music using scratch, avant-garde beats and new underground frequencies.

richie is one of the pioneers of the techno sound that all these euro guys make a living off of today.

If it wasnt for richie you might not have techno and trance sounding the way it does today.
