Going clubbing alone

We see a lot of posts from people who don't go out because they do not want to go alone. Sometimes there's a show you really want to see but don't have anyone to go with. Your buddies might be out of town or your friends would rather go to a bar or hip hop club.
Our advice from TA is:
If you really want to go, then suck it and
Just go alone.
There is no shame. Most of us do it.
There are several benefits:
1. You play by your own rules. You go when you want, come home when you want. You aren't dragged out of the club at the peak because someone has to wake up early or they "just don't feel like staying." Or if you're ready to go home, you don't have to stay for anyone else.
2. It allows you to places you normally wouldn't. Go to underground clubs, small venues, and large events all over the place so long as you handle yourself well and stay safe.
3. You meet new people. You don't have that safety blanket of always hanging out with, and talking to the same people. Most people clubbing will be on a similar wavelength. We're all here because we love the music and the people.
Disadvantages:
1. If you booze heavily or abuse (not just use) drugs you may not have someone to stand by you. I once forgot my way home and wandered around Times Square till I could get my bearings straight.
2. If you have to commute through unsafe neighborhoods at odd hours you gotta play extra safe. (Then just do what I do: party till the sun comes out.)
3. If you're the type who's likely to get into a fight, then, well, it's unlikely that someone will have your back.
It's tough at first but do this a couple of times and you'll start seeing the same people more frequently. Don't stick only to the larger venues like Crobar or Spirit. It's unlikely you'll get to know anyone well. I got to know most TAs by talking to them at smaller places like Table 50. When I moved to NYC, for six months I didn't go clubbing because I didn't have anyone else to go with. Then one day, I just sucked it up and started going alone. Some nights sucked, but some were great because you felt completely free in an environment that allows you to be yourself.
Aight, that's it for now. Please feel free to add or comment. Go out, have fun, stay safe. |

| Yea I been going clubbing alone since 1999 and it always been great because when you find someone to leave with (chicks) and your friends don't have to be left behind. Also I have no friends down here. My only problem is roadtripping alone. Thats kinda of scary but I gotta get use to it since people in VA suck |

Girls should not go clubbing alone its very dangerous IMO. Sober or intoxicated girls are easy targets.
Coming home from zabiela at cielo last time here was here. Someone following me and my friend catherine down 14th street for about a block at which point i noticed him and we ran across the street and jumped in the subway. The city is a dangerous place at 4-6am people shouldnt forget that. |

I remember when that happened....crazy. NYC I would say is safer than DC at night. The people aroung Glow at 4am are ing scary....especially if you're a chick. I remember a few years ago when a friend of mine called me around 4am totally freaing out because a bum was trying to break into her car when she was sleeping in it......I called everybody I knew that was @ Glow that night to send security out to her car......scary .:nervous: |

i like to go solo clubbing as well and i just think chicks should be very vigilant about it- i've had my fair share of sketchy incidents, including one in DC lol. some one-eyed crazy ass tall mofo was following us around saying that he's gonna slash my tires if i dont pay him for parking there (on the street mind you). i just ignored him, nothing happened (luckily). i also think DC (well, the area around glow) is ing sketchdonkulous in the wee hours of the night.
another time some guy trying to pose as NYPD (not in uniform, what an idiot) was trying to talk to me. he was asking me my name, where i'm going, if he could walk me to my car.. he was just nuts. it was like 6am and i had an indian vegetable pastie with me so i just gave it to him and said "caring is sharing, BYE!" and ran across the street. skeeeeeeetch. goddamn.
anyway, a few years ago i started to carry mace just to be safe. and i usually walk with it in my hands on the street. but @ spirit one night security was doing the regular search and they made me give it up. so now i use something else:

sup everyone.....
i'm originally from toronto, just moved down to jersey city from boston 2 weeks ago. funny that someone made a thread on this....
i don't really know anyone down here and am debating whether to venture out to NYC one of these weekends. what are some decent places to go to? i was thinking AVB next weekend, but i did enough of the 'packed like sardines' clubbing back at the guvernment in toronto so i would prefer a more intimate venue with great music and great ppl. like sid says, since the city is not the safest place people ought to party till the sun comes up if they go by themselves. i rarely pop anymore and i just can't party till 7am without doing that... and i don't want to wander around the city now knowing where i'm going at 4am.
and while i don't get completely ed up, i think its still nice to have someone get your back in case someone else starts and something goes down.... and i'm not the type to start fights.
any suggestions for a former TOTA?
thanks..
