Okay, i'm still exhausted, but i'll try and put a little review together.Porter was great, the only complaint i really had about him is that his set sounded almost exactly the same as the ones ive been hearing online from him for the last while.It would be nice to see him mix it up a little more.(It sucks when you can accuratly predict what the next track coming is before it is even cued and this drunk off my ass to boot.)I wasnt really impressed by the club at all, as it was way too small for my tastes and the system there was pretty horrible(way worse than Aria's).The one bonus was no search at the door(yay we snuck in a few mickeys of booze to keep us warm).The vibe of the clubbers there was not up to par for my tastes.Ottawa's clubbers showed little enthusiasm although Porter looked like he was trying to get them cranked up.All in all i really wish this night happened in Montreal, because the beats were good and it was sad to see such a lacklustre response to them.The lack of vibe led me to actually leave earlier than expected.
Cmon Ottawa, when you get a talented dj like Porter try to act like its somewhat appreciated.On the plus side I love that youre women are ridiculously easy.:toothless

See people, this is the template for writing a review: reviews should almost always include dj mixing, venue, vibe and of course, a 'ho' scale. Yeah, the new Surface (to be called Capital City Music Hall)will be open in March, the afterhours venue is maybe about 60 percent the size of Aria(excluding hip-hop room).. unless they plan to expand the previous club. Sounds like Porter wasn't feelin' it from the Ottawa crowd, that's gotta make for a long night for a busy, established dj. Fnkn sad and yes, a ty venue indeed.
One place where Sander K played (as well as Lawler just hours before Celebration at NYE) was the old Capital City, a building that was probably only about 30 years old but got razed to make way for new condos. This place was big, two floors even and would've been an ideal place for afterhours for a city of a million ppl. |

you dont have to be an expert to realize that if your ears hurt for a week after going the sound system is not world class.I love Aria, but if any improvement is needed its the system.When you went to Stereo to see Porter dont tell me you didnt notice the difference.At Aria the music is too loud and drowns out some of the sounds of the tracks.With a good system your ears do not bleed.pille:p
ps...you shouldnt have to scream in someones ears to be heard.

to tell u the truth, the only time that aria's sound was TOO loud is at new year's eve cuz they plugged 8 more speakers !!!!!
i never had problems at aria because of the sound, it was never too loud. and u know i go to aria VERY often so i can tell.
i only went once at Stereo it was for Steve porter and i gotta tell u that the sound quality was very nice but the sound was WAY TOO LOUD in the morning i couldnt hear anything !!!! |
