Without listening I'd go with the Tannoy's, but that's me.

Any speaker you buy should be fully auditioned, not jsut in the sore but in your room. If they won't let you test drive a pair at home (In this price range unlikely), make sure you have fully money back guarantee if you return them in 7 days. Take a pair home and try them, if they work for you, and your mixes translate then you're set.

The Alesis tend to be bass heavy, I've seen all sorts shoved into their reflex ports to change that, with mixed success, but I'm not happy with that design...

thanks for all your help guys.

tannoys, alesis, MAudio BX8A are the choices for now. i dont want a very bassy sound cause i dont want bass to take other sounds away.

any other choices i should consider?

and does anyone else have a first hand experience with Tapco S5. someone refered it earlier and i read a good article about it. but everything nowadays has good articles.

thanks
Lalin
It all depends how much money you want to spend...
I got one of the best monitors in active nearfield monitoring bussiness, Dynaudio BM-6A. It'll cost you no less then $2000.00 US or maybe you can get a better deal if you buy them used.

the behringers do give alot for the cashbut things like the cheaper events, tapcos, m-audios, krks or even samsons are a better option. but the alesis although good, the design is showing its age. i mean if u bought a nice new pair of monitors u dont want to waste 2 pairs of socks plugging up the sound ports if they are too bassy? their newer options are nice and are a much welcomed update for the little blighters.

also have you thought what qualties your looking for in a monitor, like frequency range, soundport positioning, frequency controls or wattage? if u decide on some of these you will soon come up with a short list of speakers best suited to you. i personally dig the krks.

happy searching! :happy2:

Hey it isn't a waste if it works right ;)

Besides I got my M1MK2's before the release of their current more accurate monitor line. They're great little boxes though. But once again, a little too bassy. :thepirate

im not denying they are good speakers!they were a completebreakthrough in their time. they just a little dated now. so really if your serious about sound you should consider looking into speakers that have room adjustment settings rather that the alesis way. just mypersonal opinion. if you strapped for cash tho they are a good option especially now they gone down in price.

my budget is 400$ max.

i want to use these monitors when djing and producing in my room. nothing crazy cause i live in an apartment so i dont need something powerful. what i need is clearest sound for my money. i dont like it too bassy and maybe i prefer it to be better at the highs. i dont want too much bass cause that might distort hearing beatmatching clearly when djing. i want something like 'what my monitors are giving is the exact sound the pc/cd player is playing'

i prefer not to shove socks in some speakers ill be paying that much money for. but is the new alesis improved the 'extra bass' ?

thanks for all your comments guys, its been really helping me and saving me some $$
