I got to the club much later than expected and before reviewing the actual night, I have to appologize to Louis for not making his set. I'm sorry bro, we all passed out around 2:30 and somehow managed to bring ourselves back to reality and get to the club at around 5:00. By that time, Louis' set was finished. :(
We'll be there front and center on the 3rd!
Now the review....
The gang: Me, Stereohead (Erika), Juan, Bert and Sadiq. Maybe 15 minutes in we met up with Hakim (aria_clubber) and a friend of his. Hakim immediately told us that we missed a killer Louis set. The attraction of the night, however, was already on and pumping..
The Beauty of MAüS
I am in love with Maüs. There's no doubt about it. She was already into her set when we got there and people let me tell you, it was BANG.ING from start to finish. Anyone whose seen her before knows what I'm talking about; she has this sound, something that just pulls you in to her industrial world and refuses to let you go until the very last note. While she is spinning you see that she grabs influential pointers and pays homage to more than a few of my favorites: Holden, Howells and Digweed come immediately to mind. Imagine the melodic cheerfulness of Howells coupled with Digweed's deep synths all against a backdrop of Holdenesque cuts/snippets/samples/loops. Bliss. :gsmile:
Half-way through her set I realized what distinguishes her from the rest. It is something that is consistent through-out her set, even though she covers a pretty broad spectrum of genres (at one point she spun Chicago house for Christsakes!). Hydraulics. Her world is one where the audible nature of hydraulics is always present.
Now, people might be reading this thinking "What the was this guy on last night and can I please have some" but believe me when I say that I was sober enough to understand the above and stick to it, and now 2 days later when I look back on it and think about all the other nights when I've seen Maüs (and there's been quite a few..) I'm sure of it. She is industrial techno at its sickest and finest and I love it to death.
Best Aria resident? Yes
Best local talent? Yes
Time for her to impress the world? Hell yes.
After all this, I still have to say that it wasn't her best set ever, even though it opened my eyes wider. She wasn't as into it as she could of been and as she usually is and there were a few minor technical gliches during her set, the tracks she played were not the best from her collection, but these are all minor bumps on an otherwise smoothly cemented road and I congratulate her with all my heart.

Miguel Graca did the follow-up and as hard a task as it is to follow up Maüs (in my opinion) he did a stellar job. Even Hakim, who isn't big on Graca, will have to agree with me that he put on some insanley nice tracks. Erika managed to get into the DJ-booth when Graca was on, so I too :p spent like 15 minutes or something in the DJ booth while Graca was spinning, and that's just a great feeling to be in the booth with a DJ who loves his music. The crowd was scarce by that time, but I didn't care about that. The music and the people I was with was more than enough.
Some tracks I recongnized:
Maüs spun one of her signatures You Take My Breath Away (Mylo Remix) and Graca spun a crazy Howells New Years song that I don't know the name of and Work that I believe. Overall I recongnized a lot of the tracks but a lot of others I didn't, courtesy of Maüs :happy2:
Tha Afterparty:
Erika, Hakim, Juan, Erika's cousin and her cuz' friend: all came back to my place. James Holden provided us with music for the first couple of hours with his Balance 005 magic and the rest of the day could be easily summed up with two things. EDM + Mary Jane :D
Overall: Fantastic night. This review might seem like I'm just a Maüsman raving about his favorite local DJ, but the whole night and day after was great. Thanks to everyone who made it possible.

music was pretty good. was very nice to see ericka and nick, i didnt even know they were gonna come lol. so nice that u 2 came, and nice to meet juan.

Yes yes yes gr8 night at Aria, kind of unexpected but always sweet as usual. :) Louis I'm so sorry for missing your set :( I felt so bad when I woke up at 3:30am and realized I wasn't at Aria when I was supposed to be there by 4am latest. Next time for sure...Feb 3rd MALADE:crazy: ;)
Maus basically spun the best set I've ever heard her spin. I love her and I've seen her often. She blew my mind last night :D Got a nice chat with her too...Miguel Graca came on and ripped it...I dunno what it was about the music that night but wow...Aria residents impress me more and more every time. I chilled and watched him mix for a while in the booth with him, so cool to see him get into his mix...takes me to another level :) We even had a jay 2gether :D
Afterparty LOL...another day of music music music :) Nice to chill with u again Hakim!!! And my usual boys: Nick, Juan, Bert and Sadiq...so nice dancning together again :) Been too much of a while...
I ended up at Nemesis with my cousin for a few hours and left shortly thereafter...
